  1. What Travels with You? An investigation of some of the species introduced by tourists and their effects on local flora and fauna

  2. Introduction • Images of planes, boats arriving in the Galapagos • Narration: Most people come to the Galapagos to explore a different world. They want to see the bizarre flora and fauna. Some want to protect this unique ecosystem by participating in restorative ecotourism. • Short clips with tourists saying why they came • Footage of tourists getting off modes of transport/baggage • Narration: But what most of these tourists don’t know is that they could be destroying this ecosystem just by traveling here.

  3. Interview at CDRS • Interview subject: Scientist who worked on the report “Evidence for regular ongoing introductions of mosquito disease vectors into the Galapagos Islands.” Several options possible, none yet contacted. • Content: Discussion on how species can be brought in unknowingly to the islands because they are small, travel easily in baggage. • Images: Footage of interview. If possible footage of scientist at work.

  4. Interview at CDRS (cont.) • Discussion of what was found in their research • Images: If possible footage of mosquitoes/ ailing birds.

  5. What’s Being Done? • Description of fumigation of airplanes with footage

  6. Does it Work? • Tracking students’ luggage. • What species are accidentally carried from mainlaind -> island or between the islands? • Are there things that should be removed at customs that are allowed to travel?
