Initial Involvement • Letter of Invitation from Stanislaus County Health Services Agency/Public Health received in 2006 • Worked with Stanislaus County Office of Education on several different projects, such as our Farmers market and health fair. • Great opportunity to continue to develop a working relationship with many different groups to promote eating more fruits and vegetables.

  3. 5 School Districts (Turlock, Modesto, Salida, Patterson, and Stanislaus Union) Child and Adult Care Food Program sponsor Food Stamp Program Food Stamp Nutrition Education Program Healthy Eating and Active Living Community Health Initiative Migrant Head Start Network for a Healthy California Senior Meals Program WIC Stanislaus CNAP partners

  4. Goals and Objectives Increase fruit and vegetable consumptions for all program participants Four areas of Focus: • Increase total participation • Provide consistent and coordinated information, education, and resources • Promote and influence nutrition related policy at federal, state, and local levels • Promote agriculture

  5. Results of Partnership • Increased understanding of each other’s program operations and requirements • Increased collaboration and partnership, helping each other with resources • Camaraderie – monthly meetings to share information and discuss challenges

  6. Overcoming challenges • Collective effort in promoting school breakfast • Brainstorming and sharing ideas on budgetary issues and constraints

  7. Some Specific Outcomes • Revised school menus to include more fresh fruits and vegetables • Revised Head Start menu to include more age appropriate and variety of fruits and vegetables • Increase in participation for school lunch, school breakfast and food stamps • Increased marketing of school lunches • Increased fruits and vegetable consumption by 100%

  8. Collaborative Projects • Food assistance resource guide • Flyer to encourage breakfast for school children • Letter to USDA regarding the 2009 Reauthorization of the Child Nutrition Programs and the WIC Program

  10. Activities Implemented by Turlock Unified School District • Site farmers market/Annual Health Fair • Working with the local University to start Food Dudes program • Using the USDA Fruits and Vegetables galore campaign • Created the Real fresh program
