  1. Bike Sharing in St. Louis By: Max Bentelspacher

  2. The main idea of this project is to connect Forrest Park, University City, and the Delmar Loop with a bike sharing system Main Idea

  3. A bike sharing system provides people with a healthy way for transportation to there destination. It also connects neighborhoods and developments. • With providing people with easy access to a bike it can help reduce congestion, and pollution on city streets Why is this important

  4. The bikes and stations will need to be maintainedso a contract with Alta Bicycle Sharing could be one solution to keeping the bikes and the stations maintained. • The other solution would be to create a business that maintains the bikes and the stations in the surrounding area of the bike share program. Thus bringing in more jobs to that area. Staff and Maintenance

  5. Like most bike programs the best solution for security would be to have people when they purchase a membership to receive a card that allows them, and only them to have access to any of the bike sharing stations scattered throughout the area. • Another solution would be to require a security deposit to ensure people won’t just walk off with the bikes. Security

  6. The way that bike sharing programs have revenue is through advertisements of the program or business that supports the bike sharing program. • The other source of income comes through the bike sharing program itself when someone purchases a membership to use the bikes. • Membership Fees: • -24 Hours: $7.00 • -7 Days: $15.00 • -30 Days: $25.00 • -Annual: $65.00 • -plus $2.00 every half hour the bike is checked out( $40.00 maximum charge per day) • *prices based on the Kansas City B-cycle* Revenue

  7. This program would give more attention to the business and attractions in University City, Forrest Park, and the Delmar loop. • It will also hopefully reduce street congestion on the already popular Delmar loop. Impact

  8. This development will be located throughout University City, Forrest Park, and the Delmar loop. • The bike stations itself do not take up much space, and there will be many stations scattered throughout the development area Location

  9. This development will cost around $1million for 12 stations in the development area. • This factors in the cost of: • -Bikes • -Stations • -Security • -Solar panels Cost of this development

  10. Most of the funding will come from a grant from the Founders Network for Smart Growth and Livable Communities. • More funding can come from a grant from MODOT • The last funding option can come from a company that is willing to sponsor this development. Funding
