  2. אמדאו מודיליאני (1884-1920), צייר ופסל איטלקי ממוצא יהודי, מהמקוריים שבאמנים של ראשית המאה ה-20. הכשרתו האמנותית הושתתה על עיון מעמיק ביצירותיהם של אמני הרנסנס באיטליה. מ-1906 ישב בפריס, שם הושפע מעבודתם של הצייר פול סזאן והפסל קונסטנטין ברנקוזי . לבד מכמה ציורי נוף מוקדמים צייר בראש ובראשונה דיוקנים ונשים בעירום. דמויותיו ארוכות הגפיים מצטיינות בפשטות צורה ארכאית, בעיצוב קווי מרהיב ובשימוש רגיש - אך מועט - בצבע. את מיטב יצירותיו צייר ב-5 השנים האחרונות לחייו. מודיליאני השתתף בתערוכות מעטות, ותהילתו באה לו אחרי מותו.
