  2. Canadian Supply Chain Food Safety Coalition • Our Vision: Canada’s agriculture, fisheries and food industry will have a world-class reputation for producing and selling safe food.

Canadian Supply Chain Food Safety Coalition • Our Mission: To facilitate, through dialogue within the food industry and with all levels of government, the development and implementation of a national, coordinated approach to food safety to ensure credibility in domestic and international marketplaces.

  5. Priority #1 – Membership & Members Services • Continued Member support • Maintenance of the Website • Financial stability • Information bulletins

  6. Priority #2 – Government Relations • A top priority • Continued work with the FPT committees • Expanded contacts with officials • Participation in government consultations

  7. Priority #3 – Issues Management (1) • APFI • Final submission to Review Committee (January) • Advocacy on post-farm recognition, etc • Hosting consultation sessions • Canadian Guidelines for Ensuring a Safe Food Supply During an Adverse Water Event • Recommendations to the Food Industry for Improving Security • APFII • Preparation of Coalition brief & submission • Participation in December consultations

Priority #3 – Issues Management (2) • Main points in the Coalition submission – AFP II must: • include food safety as a priority theme • be based on a new vision of food safety developed by government & industry • include a renewed & well resourced commitment to greater harmonization across jurisdictions • result in the establishment of a new & effective food safety decision-making mechanism • recognize the important role of industry-led programs

Priority #3 – Issues Management (3) • APFII – Main points continued • Must include funding for the infrastructure of industry-led programs (food safety & traceability) • Must include funding for on-farm & post-farm implementation by SME’s • Must result in simpler & more streamlined programs & reduced administration costs for applicants • In addition, initiatives related to on-farm program recognition, post-farm program recognition & development of the infrastructure for servicing these programs must be completed prior to the start of APFII

Priority #4 – Pandemic Preparedness Planning (1) • A new priority in 2006 • February Workshop – a great success • Formation of Industry/Government Subcommittee on Pandemic Preparedness Planning in the Agri-Food Sector • 6 meetings • Developed list of issues to be dealt with • Stimulated formation of new directorate in AAFC • Secured funding for work on preparedness planning
