Sixth Grade ProgramSpanish Component • Geograpy of Spanish-speaking countries • Spanish/English cognates • Numbers • Calendar elements & weather • Classroom objects & commands • The body and descriptive adjectives • Sports • Pastimes (intro to Spanish action verbs) • Home (members of the family, animals, rooms & things in a house) • Community (places around town and shopping) • Foods (customs of Spanish speaking families) • Graduation Fiesta

  4. Portfolios • Assessment by portfolio. • Students will choose portfolio submissions & will do self assessment • Teacher will conference with student to review & assess work products. • Quizzipoos will also count per topic

  5. Seventh Grade SpanishProgram • “Ven Conmigo” series – “Adelante” • Basics of Spanish pronunciation • Thematic vocabulary • Introduction to Spanish grammatical system • Structured instruction & assessment

  6. 7th Grade Vocabulary Themes • School and schedules • Past times • Family and animals (pets) • Actions and sports • Household chores • Weather, seasons • All related grammar items

  7. 7th Grade AssessmentItems • Composition of sentences in Spanish applying the correct grammar rules. • Reading basic Spanish sentences and understanding them. • Listening to Spanish speakers and understanding them. • Speaking basic Spanish phrases with the correct accent

  8. 7th Grade Program Expectations • First year of a two year program of study • Homework for every session • Subject is treated and conducted as a core curriculum class • Preparation for TUHSD Exam • A-lab sessions available for extra help

  10. Eighth Grade SpanishProgram • Continuation of seventh grade study • More in-depth grammar • Structured writing and translations • Speaking activities & assessments • Listening comprehension activities • TUHSD test for HS credit

  11. 8th Grade Projects • Painting and building cultural items • Composition of Spanish essays (High School Requirement) • Group translations of short stories (High School Requirement) • Oral role-playing projects (Speaking & Listening High School Requirement)

  12. 8th Grade Program Expectations • Homework for every session • Lots of grammar instruction • Dedicated time for review and practice • TUHSD preparation mid-way into second semester
