What is specified complexity? • G-I-F-T – An arbitrary sequence of sounds • Language gives it meaning (E:present, G:poison, or N:married) • DNA: G-C-A-T – An arbitrary chemical sequence • How does it communicate what to do? • Chemicals don’t create linguistic conventions… • Linguistic conventions come from the mental realm of information and intelligence.
