Prep

  • Select an Appropriate Outfit.

  • Prepare a positive appearance - Clean hair, face, & hands. Be well-rested.

  • Practice Good Posture.

  • Have a visual(s) for your audience to look at.

  • Have note cards or power point cards.

  • Practice out loud at least 100 times.

  • Introduce yourself and your topic.

  • Stand with Good Posture

  • Don’t touch your face or fool with your hair

  • Make regular eye contact with your audience

  • Use ‘open’ body language

  • If you have to refer to your cards, look down, and then look up to your audience.

  • Talk to the ears …don’t turn away from the audience while you are speaking

  • Speak loudly, clearly, and enunciate your works. Don’t shout.

  • Breath….don’t rush.

  • Finish with a conclusion statement to let your audience know that you are done.

  • Face the presenter

  • Listen quietly

  • Hold any questions to the end, do not interrupt

  • Use positive ‘open’ body language, show that you are interested and supportive. Your behavior affects the presenter’s performance.

  • Do not ask to be excused during a presentation.

  • If there is time for questions, ask meaningful questions that relate to the topic.


Engage your audience

Engage Your Audience

You can engage your audience by asking questions. Often a question is asked to make the audience think of a time…or relate to and topic on a personal level. This type of question is not meant to be answered by the presenter. Other times the speaker can engage the audience with a thumb or similar response.
