  4. Synopsis Belle is a girl who is dissatisfied with life in a small provincial French town and constantly trying to fend off the misplaced "affections" of the conceited Gaston. The Beast is a prince who was placed under a spell because he could not love. A wrong turn taken by Maurice, Belle's father, causes him to be imprisoned by the beast. Belle exchanges places with her father and is doomed to spend the rest of her life in the castle with the hideous beast, unless…

  5. Casting Info • Cast size: 40 students maximum • Approximately 20 speaking parts, several ensemble parts available • The ensemble will consist of the villagers, servants and assorted kitchen utensils. • Stage Crew will be limited to only a handful of students and will be selected by the directors after auditions.

Casting Info (cont.) • Narrators (2-4) • Prince/Beast • Old Woman/Enchantress • Belle: A beautiful and intelligent young woman. • Gaston: A handsome, yet conceited brute. • Lefou: Gaston’s goofy sidekick. • Silly Girls (3) • Maurice: Belle’s father. • Cogsworth: An English major-domo, who has become a clock. • Lumiere: A French maitre d’ who has become a candelabra. • Babette: A maid who has become a feather duster. • Mrs. Potts: A cook who has become a teapot. • Chip: Mrs. Pott’s son who has become a teacup. • Madame de la Grande Bouche: A singer who has become a wardrobe. • Monsieur D’Arque: Proprietor of the lunatic asylum. • Ensemble: Various villagers, servants and kitchen utensils.

  7. Applications • Applications are due Thursday, November 14th, 2013to Ms. Cordeiro/Mr. Jalbert. • NO LATE APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED! • Must have and maintain at least a ‘C’ average in all classes (including related arts) to participate. • Students must not have received an In-School or Out-Of-School suspension this year. Code of conduct will be adhered to at all times.

  8. Audition Materials • All boys will receive a paper copy of the audition song “Gaston: Reprise.” All girls will receive a paper copy of the song “Home.” If students would like an audio copy of the music to practice with, they must bring in a blank CD-R or CD-RW by Nov. 8th and Mr. Jalbert will make a copy for them. • CD’s must have the child’s name and homeroom teacher’s name written on it. CD’s must be turned in at the audition. CD’s will be destroyed after auditions, so you will not get them back. • Students will also receive a page of lines from the show. These lines will be used during the audition.

  10. Auditions • November 14th- There will be an audition rehearsal from 3:30-4:30. This is not a mandatory meeting, but attendance is STRONGLY recommended. Students will learn the song and get the speaking lines that will be used during the audition. Please be on time to pick up your child at 4:30. • November 19th- all students auditioning will report to the cafegymatorium after school. • Auditions will be from 3:30-??? Once students audition, they may call to be picked up. • Auditions are closed to all students and parents. Parents are welcome to wait in the lobby, but will not be allowed in the cafeteria.

  11. Audition Format • Students will check in at the stage at 3:30. They will be given an audition number and their application. Then they will be sent to the “holding tank” where they will wait for their turn to audition. While in the holding tank, they are encouraged to practice their songs/lines. They can practice alone or with partners/small groups. They can also work on homework at this time. • Students will be called back to the stage in groups of 10. • Students will sing the audition song solo and then read their lines either alone or with a partner/judge(s).

  12. Important Dates • Cast List will be posted November 22nd in main lobby. • 1st Cast Meeting will be December 2ndfrom 3:30-5:30 in the music room. All Cast members must attend! • Rehearsals will begin December 2nd. • Rehearsals will be held from 3:30-5:30. Not all cast members will be at every rehearsal during the first 2-3 months of rehearsal. Please pay attention to highlighted rehearsals on your child’s calendar. • Your child will receive a calendar at the meeting on December 2nd with his/her specific schedule. • During the month of April, all cast and crew members must attend each rehearsal scheduled. Please know that we may add rehearsals to the calendar at any time, if we feel they are necessary.

  13. Student/Parent Contract • Must inform us in person or by phone/email if a rehearsal will be missed. vanessa.cordeiro@appo.k12.de.us or peter.jalbert@appo.k12.de.us • 3 unexcused absences from rehearsals will result in removal from the show. • Can be removed from show due to missed rehearsals, late pick-ups, and/or misbehavior. • Discipline records will be reviewed prior to casting any student in the show.

  14. Parent Committees The directors will set up parent committees to assist with the many “behind the scenes” aspects of putting on a production of this caliber. Parents of cast/crew members are asked to join at least one committee. Committees will be organized and set up after the winter break.

  15. Show Dates • During tech week and dress rehearsals from May 12th-May 16th all Cast and Crew Members must attend all rehearsals for the whole rehearsal time! NO EXCUSES!!! • Shows: • May 14th: In-School Performance: This show is a dress rehearsal and is only for BME students and staff. No public admittance, due to limited space. • May 16th: 7:00 P.M. • Call time: 5:30 P.M. • May 17th: 7:00 P.M. • Call time: 5:30
