  2. 1 8 5 Culture ▶Reading Comprehension Are Short Men ‘Losers’? The word ‘loser’ has become a buzzword, causing a big stir around the nation after a recent remark by a female college student guest on KBS TV’s talk show, ‘Misuda (Beauties’ Chatterbox).’ A student of Hongik Univ. in Seoul, one of the 12 students invited to the talk show, said, “I can’t go out with a short male. Height is a measure of competitiveness. I think a man who is short is a loser.” According to her, a dating partner should stand at least 180 centimeters tall. Following this harsh remark by the college girl deriding men shorter than 180 centimeters, netizens raged both at her and KBS, bombarding the cyberspace with ruthless criticisms. Numerous complaints were filed against KBS. Some even called for financial compensation for psychological damage. The student posted an apologizing letter in her personal homepage and school’s community site. But that was not enough to ease the noise both on and off line. Some Internet users went further than attacking her with harsh remarks. They even tracked her school life and posted her personal information on the Web. Many people blame the ugly frivolity of Korean society that has been obsessed with lookism as the fundamental cause of this big stir. But still, the student, the broadcaster and netizens who made her personal information public on the Internet, infringing on her privacy, cannot be exempted from being held responsible for this controversy, experts say. ☞ Choose the best answer based on the article.
