  1. The Power of Community LEADERS HAVE DECISIONS TO MAKE. WE CAN DECIDE TO BUILD A COMMUNITY OF ARTISTS AND WORHSIP LEADERS OR WE CAN DECIDE TO MERELY ASSEMBLE A TEAM TO ACCOMPLISH A MINISTRY TASK. The choice we make will directly impact how we do ministry and lead those under our care.

  2. The Power of Community • What are the reasons that compel us to be involved in lives other than our own? • We need each other. • To know and be known is a basic human need. • Relationships truly matter. • If we believe that relationships matter, then we all the more realize that the people we have been called to lead are our actual ministry!

  3. The Power of Community • Get to know those on your team and in your community. • Identify individual strengths, gifts, talents and interests • Explore backgrounds • Expertise • Likes and dislikes • Who thinks long-term, short-term, mid-term • What are their love languages? • Touch; Gifts; Acts of Service; Quality Time; Words of Affirmation

  4. The Power of Community • Identify and chart the direction of the team: • A strength is nothing more – and nothing less – than a skill so well matched to a task that the results are stellar. Know your team’s skills, and you can all begin turning those skills into strengths. • Use the strengths to hone direction. • Rally the team around those strengths and what you are collectively passionate about. • Monitor the commitments of your team…

  5. The Power of Community • What does it mean to be part of a team? • It means… • YOU BELONG!!!

  6. The Power of Community You belong to a community! Your people belong to a community. People belong to “specific” ministry teams for two reasons: 1. Your gifts and abilities have created a niche for you on the team. (Proverbs 22:9) 2. Your personality has created a place for you on the team. (1 Cor. 12:18)

  7. The Power of Community Four Deadly Arrows that Kill a Team 1. Selfishness: (Luke 15:11-32) 2. Grumbling and Complaining: (Exodus 15:24) 3. A Competitive Spirit 4. Unresolved Relational Conflict: (John 17)

  8. The Power of Community What are the Characteristics of a Team Player? 1. Committed to the Cause: (Philippians 2:2) 2 Committed to Resolving Relational Conflict: (Eph. 4:3; Psalm 133:1) 3. Committed to Encouraging and Supporting Teammates: (1 Cor. 12:26; 1 Thess. 5:11) 4. Holds on to Gifts Loosely: (Psalm 123:2)

  9. The Power of Community • Intentional team building is messy…why? • But the reality is… • You and I can’t ignore our God-given longing to belong and to be in community. • You and I are designed by God to know and be known

  10. The Power of Community What happens when people don’t feel a part of a community?

  11. The Power of Community • Lack of longevity in the ministry • The ministry is one with a revolving door • People can feel used • People can feel underappreciated What happens when people don’t feel a part of a community?

  12. The Power of Community • Quote of the day: • Ministry is truly a series of one difficult conversation after another. • Why is this the case?

  13. The Power of Community • Why is the aforementioned quote true? • Because all of us are sinners. • Put a few fallible human beings on a team, and eventually, conflict will erupt.

  14. The Power of Community • Question of the day: • Do you agree with the following statement: • “There is probably a higher percentage of conflict in music and arts ministries than other ministries.” • Why?
