  5. Physical Features of the Korean Peninsula Low-lying mountains cover much of North Korea and stretch along the eastern side of the peninsula into South Korea, covering 70% of the land. Monsoons affect Korea just like the rest of East Asia. Natural Resources: Coal in North Korea, and forests in both as well as tungsten, gold and silver.

  6. Korean History People originally migrated from Manchuria and North China. 2000 b.c. the Chosen ruled Korea. 100 b.c. China conquered the northern part of Korea. Korea became a buffer zone between Japan and China, both overran Korea on different occasions. The Three Kingdoms formed in the 300s. Koguryo in the NE, Paekche in the SW, and Silla in the SE.

  7. 660 Silla took over the peninsula. 1910 Japan ruled Korea. After WWII Korea split North (communist) and South (democratic) 1950 North invades South 1953 cease fire is settled at the 38th parallel.

  8. Government North Korea is a communist dictatorship which is nearly a monarchy. South Korea is a democratic republic. In 2000 unity looked possible but time will tell with the new dictator of North Korea, Kim Jong-un. Juche is a set of ideas based around North Korean politics and leadership. It mixes communist ideas with North Korean culture. While not a religion it is much like what other ideal in the region? Confucianism. Both have mandatory military service. N. Korea has a million man army.

  14. Economics Pre-1950, what type of economy did both Koreas have? Agricultural. North Korea has a communist government with a strong dictator. The government controls all major aspects of the economy. South Korea has a democratic government and it is a free market economy.
