Lab 1: Orientation/Check-In • Turn into TA: (Signed) Safety Sheet, Pre-Labs • Purchase of Safety Goggles • Organize into Lab-Groups of Three • Lab Orientation/Safety • Lab Operation Protocols • Safety Features • Lab Report Format • Demo’s [ Balance , Mohr Pipet ] • Check-In [ Locker #/combo, signed/TA ] • Either Part A and B or Part B and then A.

  2. Laboratory Orientation • Instructors/TA/Stock-room • Safety/Read Labs/Pre-Labs • When in Doubt…Ask! • Take note of Lab Intro’s • Clean-up’s (Group/Bench responsibilities) & Sign-out’s • Lab Report Format • Group Contribution Form

  3. Laboratory Safety • Safety in the Chemistry Laboratory • Safety Goggles & Protective Clothing • Chemicals & Equipment • Wastes Disposal & Water • Hoods & Gloves • Eye-Wash Fountains • Fire Extinguishers & Emergency/Showers • When in doubt…Call for Assistance!

  4. Locker Check-In • Locker # & combo’s [Note them and stick tape to sheet] • Check through locker content • Check off Sheet: Put extra’s in hood. • Sign sheet • Return sheet to TA/Instructor

  5. Mass & Volume • Mass Determinations: • Use two difference types of balances • Glass Stoppers, Rubber Stoppers, Wooden Corks • 50 mL beakers (difference method) • Digital Electronic Balance(s) Demo • Volumetric Glassware: [DO NOT need Soap Washings] • Pipette demo • Burette demo • Use 100-mL graduated cylinder instead of 25-mL • Use 10-mL pipette instead of 25-mL pipette
