  6. Purpose of Writing Song of Solomon seems to have been written as a poetical tribute to the woman that Solomon truly loved. It also trumpets the glory of the physical relationship within marriage, which serves to remind us that there is nothing ungodly or shameful about sex. This book also serves as a reminder of how much God loves us and the extent to which he will go to buy us and cleanse us to make us worthy of him. Song of Solomon reminds us that we are loved infinitely by the true Bridegroom: Jesus Christ. Bible Survey – Song of Solomon

  7. Christ in Song of Solomon Isaiah 54:5-6 "For your husband is your Maker, Whose name is the LORD of hosts; And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel, Who is called the God of all the earth. 6 For the LORD has called you, Like a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit, Even like a wife of one's youth when she is rejected," Says your God. 8. Christ in Song of Solomon Ezekiel 16:8-14 "Then I passed by you and saw you, and behold, you were at the time for love; so I spread My skirt over you and covered your nakedness. I also swore to you and entered into a covenant with you so that you became Mine," declares the Lord GOD. Bible Survey – Song of Solomon

  9. Christ in Song of Solomon Hosea 2:16-20 "It will come about in that day," declares the LORD, "That you will call Me Ishi And will no longer call Me Baali…. 19 I will betroth you to Me forever; Yes, I will betroth you to Me in righteousness and in justice, In lovingkindness and in compassion, 20 And I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness. Then you will know the LORD.” Bible Survey – Song of Solomon

  10. Christ in Song of Solomon 2 Corinthians 11:2 For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I betrothed you to one husband, so that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin. Bible Survey – Song of Solomon

  11. Christ in Song of Solomon Ephesians 5:25-27 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, 26 so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless. 12. Christ in Song of Solomon Revelation 19:7-9 "Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready." 8 It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. 9 Then he said to me, "Write, 'Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.'" And he said to me, "These are true words of God." Bible Survey – Song of Solomon

  13. Christ in Song of Solomon Revelation 21:9 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and spoke with me, saying, "Come here, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb." Bible Survey – Song of Solomon

  14. Christ in Song of Solomon • Bridegroom: You are altogether beautiful, my darling, And there is no blemish in you. (4:7) • Bride: Like an apple tree among the trees of the forest, So is my beloved among the young men. In his shade I took great delight and sat down, And his fruit was sweet to my taste. 4 He has brought me to his banquet hall, And his banner over me is love. (2:3-4) Bible Survey – Song of Solomon

  15. Christ in Song of Solomon • Bride: For your love is better than wine. (1:2) • Bride: I was asleep but my heart was awake. A voice! My beloved was knocking: 'Open to me, my sister, my darling, My dove, my perfect one! (5:2) Bible Survey – Song of Solomon

  16. Christ in Song of Solomon • Bridegroom: You are as beautiful as Tirzah, my darling, As lovely as Jerusalem, As awesome as an army with banners. (6:4) Bible Survey – Song of Solomon

  17. Marriage in Song of Solomon Understanding that this book is not only a picture of God’s love for his people is also very important. Song of Solomon may be seen also as a divine mandate for married couples to enjoy the physical aspect of their relationship. It is one of God’s reminders that sex is a good thing within the bonds of marriage. We must not allow ourselves to think that the physicality of life is shameful. Bible Survey – Song of Solomon

  18. Marriage in Song of Solomon “There is no point in trying to be more spiritual than God. God never meant man to be a purely spiritual creature. That is why he uses material things like bread and wine to put the new life into us. We may think this rather crude and unspiritual. God does not: he invented eating. He likes matter. He invented it.” (Mere Christianity, Book 2, Ch. 5) Bible Survey – Song of Solomon

  19. Place in the Canon Historically, it tells us about Solomon’s relationship with the Shulamite. Theologically, it tells us of God’s relationship with us. Devotionally, it reminds us to have a love for God that is as much greater than our love for anything or anyone else as our love for our spouse is greater than our love for any other person.
