  3. What are our goals in this area?

  4. Our Vision LINCCWeb v. 2.0 is for students who want answers to their information needs. LINCCWeb is a set of discovery tools that provide quick, easy, relevant information when, where and how the student needs it. Unlike traditional library tools, LINCCWeb provides relevant, targeted information via a meaningful self-guided user experience.

  5. Goals • Enhance and expand the user experience by employing user centered design and introducing state of the art features and functionality that promote user self sufficiency • Make LINCCWeb information available at the point of user need, integrated into college instructional and information systems and discoverable within search tools commonly used by students

  6. How did we decide what direction to take, and what other products or approaches did we consider?

  7. Timeline 2006 Jan – NC State releases Endeca OPAC June – FCLA licenses Endeca Nov – CCLA becomes Primo Charter Customer – CCLA licenses Endeca – Primo Charter Customer kickoff meeting Dec – Decision to develop both Primo and Endeca through Proof of Concept

  8. Umm...why both? • “Next gen” features and functionality (both) • Experience in hands-on “ETL” processes and XML-based development (Endeca) • Cooperative opportunities with Florida Center for Library Automation (FCLA) (Endeca) • Established product (Endeca) vs. opportunity to impact development as Charter Customer (Primo)

Primo or Endeca? 2007 Spring – CCLA participates in a series of webinars and Charter Customer conference calls – Official kick off meeting at CCLA for Primo May – In house Endeca training – Endeca proof of concept development begins July – In house Primo training – Primo proof of concept development begins Summer – Parallel work on Endeca and Primo

May – “Sneak Peek” release May – Primo v. 2.0 General Release Summer – Library feedback validated – Student user testing – LINCCWeb v. 2.0 final development Fall – LINCCWeb v. 2.0 goes live (Primo 2.x)
