  1. Sexual Response and Orgasm

  2. Sexual Feelings and Responsible Decisions Sexual responses in the body should not be confused with love. Recall that physical feelings come about because of hormones in the body.

  3. Sexual Feelings and Response We need to set clear and definite limits on our sexual behavior before getting in a situation. A person does not think as clearly when these feelings begin to build.

  4. Hormones and Sexual Feelings The sex hormones released by the pituitary glands that affect your physical growth also cause sexual feelings. These feelings are normal and healthy.

  5. Sexual Feelings and Response The presence of sex hormones causes the bodies heart to beat faster, breathing to speed up, hands may get clammy. In the male, the penis begins to get hard, In the female, vaginal fluids are secreted. BUT these feelings do not have to be acted upon. The body can return to its normal state.

  6. The Sexual Response Cycle If excitement continues, the entire body goes through a sexual response cycle, a series of sexual responses from the body. 4 phases: excitement, plateau, orgasm, resolution

  7. Phase One: Sexual Response Cycle Excitement as well as tension builds. Extra blood flows into tissue of the penis and walls of the vagina and clitoris Increases in muscle tension, a quickened heart rate, flushed skin, hardened or erect nipples

  8. Phase Two: Sexual Response Cycle If stimulation continues, the body moves into plateau phase. Muscles tighten and body tension continues to build. Can last for a few minutes or several hours, but you are able to stop at this phase.

  9. Phase Three: Sexual Response Cycle Orgasm occurs. Both males and females are capable of orgasm. The body releases built-up tension and excitement with a series of muscular contractions that give great pleasure Most people report it as the most pleasurable experience possible (http://health.discovery.com/centers/sex/sexpedia/sexresponse_02.html) Most of the time a male will ejaculate. There is no turning back from this point.

  10. Phase Four- Sexual Response Cycle Resolution phase where body relaxes and returns to it’s usual state Usually a general sense of well being and enhanced intimacy and fatigue Many women are capable of a rapid return to the orgasmic phase (Multiple orgasms) Males experience a refractory period of varying duration after orgasm. During this period, men cannot achieve orgasm, although partial or full erection may sometimes be maintained.
