  2. Materials Needed for Class ◊ Notebook or Binder ◊ Agenda—HW should be written in daily ◊ Pens & Pencils—several of both ◊ Outside Reading Book—starting next Tue. Donations: A big Thank You to everyone that already donated items They are greatly appreciated. Items Still Needed: disinfecting wipes, glue sticks and markers

  3. Reading • Core Novels • Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry • Julie of the Wolves • Outside Reading • 3 outside reading novels will be required each semester • Reading logs, a book report and oral presentation will accompany these books • Various short stories, poems, articles, etc.

  4. Writing Writing Genres we will be covering • Fictional or Autobiographical Narrative • Response to Literature • Research Report • Persuasive Essay • Summary of Reading

  5. Listening and Speaking • In class discussions • Reading from text/novels • Informal Presentations • Formal Presentations

  6. Grade Percentages • Tests—including final essays—40% • Quizzes/Projects/Presentations—35% • Book reports, revised drafts of essays • Homework/Classwork—25% • Journals, notes, grammar, discussions, reading logs

  7. How Can I Help My Student? • Reading—Monitor reading (quiet, uninterrupted), appropriate level/material, something that hasn’t been read already • Organization—Make sure backpacks stay clean and neat, use of folders/binders/notebooks and finally checking for materials needed for the school day
