  4. Colour has been investigated and used for more than 2000 years. Red: - Comes from the Old English word rѐad - Is supposedly the first colour perceived by man - Believed to have given powers or magic to deceased (Red, 2011) (Pigments through the ages) Blue: - Derived from the Old French word bleu - Signified truth and the creative power of God - Was symbolic of heaven (Blue, 2011) (Facts About Colour, 1981) Yellow: - From the Old English word geolu - Traditionally associated with cowardice and caution - Portrays optimism and energy (Yellow, 2011) (Meaning of the Colour Yellow, 2011)

  7. Psychology........ • Colours often have different meanings in various cultures. And even in Western societies, the meanings of various colours have changed over the years (Color Psychology, 2007). Generally we can find reliable information on many popular colours. • These include: • Black • White • Red • Blue • Green • Yellow • Purple • Brown

Therapy........ was used to stimulate the body and mind and to increase circulation. was thought to stimulate the nerves and purify the body. was used to heal the lungs and to increase energy levels. was believed to soothe illnesses and treat pain. shades were thought to alleviate skin problems.   10. The colours used to decorate rooms in a house can affect the occupants' moods (Homes, 2007). - Red - Pink - Orange - Green - Blue - Yellow - Lilac - Purple - Brown - Black
