  1. Each student will choose a person to read and research about them. Research Project!Biographies/ Autobiographies!  Expository Writing “Mini Pace”

Requirements: • Research (Information Cards and Source Cards) using a minimum of 2 sources (1 Book and 1 Internet) • Outline • Rough Draft (Including Works Cited and Title Page) • A Final Draft Essay, typed in 12 pt. font, Times New Roman, Double Spaced (Including Works Citedand Title Page) • A Visual Aid (Poster or Timeline) to use during presentation • Presentation to Peers

  3. Research Steps 1. Choose Person—Biography or Autobiography • --- Needs to be done by 11/1/13 2. Research Person  Complete Information Cards and Source (Works Cited) Cards • ---Needs to be done by 12/4/13 3. Put all information in an Outline • ---Needs to be done by 12/11/13 4. Write Rough Draft of Essay (Including Works Cited and Title Page) • ---Needs to be done by 12/18/13 5. Go through Revision/Editing  Self, Peer, Parent • ---Needs to be done by 1/6/14 6. Type Final Essay (Including Works Cited and Title Page) • ---Needs to be done by 1/9/14 7. Work on Speech (Note) Cards/Visual Aid  What are the important things you want to share about your person and visual aid? • ---Needs to be done by 1/15/14 8. Present to your Peers • ---Week of 1/21/14-1/23/14 9. PARTY!!!! (For those who complete all assignments) • ---1/24/14

  6. Outline • The purpose of the outline is to arrange the information so that the actual Essay is easier to write.

  7. Topics to Cover • Introduction paragraph will include • (Topic Sentence) • What the person in known for • Body paragraphs will include • (Transition Words) • History of the person: • Birth date, Childhood, Death Date if applicable • Struggles/Problems: • What did this person struggle with? Learning problems, death, bullying, Physical problems? • Accomplishments: • What success has this person had in their lifetime? • Have they won awards? Medals? Prizes? • Conclusion paragraph will include: • (Restated Topic Sentence) • Your personal opinion of the person.

  8. Essay Requirements • 5 paragraph Informative/Explanatory Essay (Introduction, 3 body paragraphs, Conclusion) • Rough Draft-At least 3 hand-written pages in length • Typed in 12 pt. font • Times New Roman • Double Spaced • A Title Page • A Works Cited Page

  11. Visual Aid Choices: • Poster • Timeline Banner

  12. Timeline • Must include a minimum of 10 significant events in the person’s life (should be mentioned in your presentation) • Each date must have a relevant picture

  13. Speech (Note) Cards • Students are required to write and use speech (note) cards during your presentations. • This should be information about your person and visual aid.

  14. Presentations • Presentations will be about 3 minutes in length. • The visual aid and the speech (note) cards are the only things that will be available you during presentations.
