  2. CentreLathe Safety Guard Chuck Tailstock The picture on the left shows a Centre Lathe which is used for turning metals Bed Headstock Compound Slide Cross Slide Toolpost Saddle wheel The main parts are as shown EmergencyStop

  3. Turning a Taper First of all fix the bar in the chuck with the Chuck key.

  4. Turning a Taper Now rotate the Compound slide to the desired angle.

  5. Turning a Taper Next Lower the Guard into position.

  6. Turning a Taper Move the Tool closer to the workpiece with the Saddle wheel.

  7. Turning a Taper Switch the Lathe On

  8. Turning a Taper Use the Compound Slide to take the first small cut off the bar

  9. Turning a Taper Use the Compound Slide to take the first small cut off the bar (about 1mm)

  10. Turning a Taper Then wind the Compound Slide back

  11. Turning a Taper Move the Cross slide in to take a second cut.

  12. Turning a Taper Use the Compound slide to take a second cut.

  13. Turning a Taper Repeat this process until the desired taper is achieved (Remember to take a light cut with each pass of the tool tip)

  14. Turning a Taper Switch the lathe Off .

  15. Turning a Taper Lift the Safety Guard.

  16. Turning a Taper Remove the workpiece.

  17. Process Completed Well Done
