  3. Know the risk factors about heart disease, diabetes, cholesterol, high blood pressure. • How to cope with stress • Enjoy living smoke free ¡Vida! Educational Series - Promoting Good Health

  4. WHO Steps Forward Implemented by Mel and Enid College of Public Health To train health promoters to educate health prevention to community group members providing information about heart health and diabetes

  5. WHAT Steps Forward is a program that can help participants and their families to start doing healthier life changes

  6. WHEN The program was first Pilot in Douglas from 2003-2004 and then continue as a project Funded by CDC October 2004 to September 2009

  7. HOW 2 Promotoras – trainers of the classes and walking groups Met once a week in a hall provided by one of the community churches Scheduler: morning and evening Walking groups: morning and evening one to three times a week

  8. Summary The project was a demonstration research project Participants have lower waist circumference, lower BMI Lab results:lower cholesterol levels and lower high blood pressure Increasedphysical activity ¡Vida! Educational Series - Promoting Good Health
