  2. Deafness is the partial or complete inability to hear. According to the Gallaudet Research Institute,2 to 4 out of every 1000 people in the united states are functionally deaf.

  3. People that are deaf want to be treated like any body else. Many deaf people resist the label “disabled’’

  4. People with some hearing loss can wear a hearing aid that amplifies sound.

  5. Some types of deafness are treatable through cochlear implants. These are electronic devices that turn sounds into electronic waves that can be transported to the brain.

  6. Deafness can make regular communication extremely difficult. Even so, People who are deaf can communicate through sign language.

  7. Deafness can vary from partial hearing loss to complete silence. It can also include a ringing in the ears. Deafness can also mean a loss of some tones or pitches.

  8. Deafness can be caused by loud noises, damage to the inner ear or cochlea damage.
