When and why it was built

  • When it was built- The Lindisfarne castle, which means “Lands Corner”, was built around 1550-1552 when the Lidisfarne priory fell and they took the stones from it to build the fort that would eventually become a castle
  • The builder was Henry VIII and it was originally a fort to protect them from the Scotts, the English, and the Vikings, and he was the first owner
  • Eventually Elizabeth I came to power and reinforced the fort by putting in gun platform, and changed it into more of a castle
