  1. PAL 4/20/12 • A Carnot engine cycle consists of the following sequential process: • Heat is absorbed reversibly and isothermally from a high-temperature reservoir at temperature Thi. • The system expands reversibly and adiabatically until its temperature is Tlo. • Heat is lost reversibly and isothermally to a low temperature reservoir at temperature Tlo. • The system is compressed reversibly and adiabatically to its original state; its temperature is again Thi. • Question 1: • Draw this cycle on a P-V diagram, labeling processes 1-4, and indicating direction by an arrow. • Is there net work done by or on the system? Is the area enclosed in the curve equal to that quantity? • Is there net heat into or out of the system? Is the area enclosed in the curve equal to that quantity? • Question 2: • Draw this cycle on a T-S diagram, labeling processes 1-4, and indicating direction by an arrow. • Is there net work done by or on the system? Is the area enclosed in the curve equal to that quantity? • Is there net heat into or out of the system? Is the area enclosed in the curve equal to that quantity?
