An operating system (OS) is a set of system software programs in a computer that regulate the ways application software programs use the computer hardware. • For hardware functions such as input/output and memory space allocation(分配), operating system programs act as an intermediary(中間物)between application programs and the computer hardware relationship of operating system and application program

  3. It would be the relationship of an electric light bulb (an application) AND an electric power generation plant (a system). The power plant only generates electricity, not itself of any real use until harnessed(加上) to an application like the electric light that performs a service that benefits the user. relationship of operating system and application program
