  1. Kidnapped Let’s make a movie!!

  2. Chapter 5 - p. 14 Captain Hoseason: A beautiful French coat. Alan Breck: Oh! You mean…(he puts hands on his guns quickly) Captain Hoseason: Wait! Alan Breck: Oh..Are you one of us? Captain Hoseason: Am I fighting the king’s soldiers? No, but you have problems because you are. That isn’t right, and I’m sorry about that. Alan Breck: Are you really sorry? I don’t want to get into the hands of the soldiers with red coats. Now sir, I am trying to get to France…Will you take me to France, captain? v

  3. Ch 4 p. 11 Mr. Riach: How are you? (David can’t answer) It will hurt for a long time. Did you have any food? David: I can’t eat anything. He gives David a drink from a cup, then went away. He comes back with the captain. Captain Hoseason: Why did you bring me here, Mr. Riach? Mr. Riach: You can see, sir, he is very ill. He can’t eat. And there’s no light in her. We have to put him in the seamen’s room. Captain Hoseason: He will stay here. Mr. Riach: I’m the second officer on this old ship. Nobody pays me to murder- Captain Hoseason: What! You know me! I’m a hard man, but I’m not a murderer. Are you saying the boy will die? Mr. Riach: Yes, he will. Captain Hoseason: All right. Move him. Five minutes later a man carried David to the seamen’s room. They put him on a small bed, and he knew nothing for hours or days.

  4. Ch. 5 - p. 15 David: Do you want them to kill you? Alan: What do you mean? David: They’re all murderers on this ship. They murdered a boy. Now it’s you. Alan: Will you help me? David: Yes, I’m not a murderer. Alan: Good. What’s your name? David: David Balfour. David Balfour of Shaws. Alan: My name is Stewart- a king’s name. But they all call me Alan Breck.

  5. Ch. 6 p. 17 After the fight… There were four dead men inside the roundhouse. Alan and David threw them outside. Nothing happened for a long time. At 6:00 am the next morning, Alan and David sat to eat breakfast. David wasn’t very hungry. ------------------------------------------ Alan: My father, Duncan Stewart, gave these buttons. Now I’m giving you one so you will remember last night’s work. Show the button anywhere, and Alan Breck’s friends will be your friends. Mr. Riachcalled from outside: “Hey” David: What will he do? Mr. Riach: He won’t try anything. He can’t. The men won’t help him. And I’m afraid, Davie. We want to see the man off this ship. We’ll take him to Linnhe Loch.

  6. Ch. 7 - Page 19 David and Alan get to know each other. David tells him about his dad’s death, his uncle, and Mr. Campbell, his father’s friend. Alan: I hate everybody with that name!!! (shouting) David: Why? Mr. Campbell’s a good man. What’s wrong with the Campbells? Alan: I’m a Stewart from Appin. The Campbells hate us. They want our lands and houses, and they try everything. They use lawyers, but never a sword. The Campbells make life dangerous for me and my friends. David: But you are going home? Alan: Oh yes! I come home every year. I have to see my friends and my country. France is a fine place, but I have to see Scotland. My chieftain(king), Ardshiel is a great man, and now he has to live in a French town. Now the people of Appin have to pay King George of England, so they can use their land. But they love their chieftain, and they find money for Ardshiel too. So David, I carry that money. (He hits the money bag hard with his hand.) His brother James Stewart get it from people. I carry it.

  7. Continued… David: I understand. I’m not fighting the king’s men, but I understand. Alan: Yes, you’re a good man, and you understand. But the Campbells don’t. And the Red Fox…. David: The Red Fox? Who’s he? Alan: I’ll tell you. Ardshiel had to run with his wife and children to France. The English took away all his land, and all the swords and guns from his clansmen (people). But they could not kill the clansmen’s love for their chieftain (king). David: The money in your bag shows that. Alan: Yes.But there is a man with red hair, a Campbell- Colin of Glenure. David: The Red Fox? Alan: Yes, he got papers from King George. The papers made him the king’s man in the lands of Appin. The clansmen have to pay him for their land. But of course they sent money to Ardshiel too. He was very angry about that. He sent for lawyers and papers and soldiers. Hundreds of soldiers are there now, but the money get through to Ardshiel. The soldiers can’t stop it. David: But I don’t understand. There are soldiers in the Highlands. But they don’t catch you. How do you do it?
