  1. Health Information Management Systems Initiative • Epi/data competencies • Informatics • NCD surveillance systems • Extension services

  2. EPI-Data Competencies

  3. EPI-Data Competencies > EpiTech competencies (Board packet) - for USAPI disease surveillance and response team members - in partnership (HLC, CDC, WHO, SPC, FNU, RAPID)update FNU’s - also address NCDs > EpiTech/Data for Decision Making five-course curriculum - Lining up support CDC (NCD, Preparedness), RAPID, ?ASTHO - course credit  BA, MA degrees at FNU. > Course #2 Palau, last week May & 1st Week July with Preparedness Mtg

  4. Pacific SHIP (Field Epidemiology Training Program) • Advanced level, applied epidemiology fellowship • SPC is lead agency • PIHOA collaborating: - providing input for our SPC partners - encourage placement of CDC FETP faculty epidemiologist in USAPI -NCD focus

  5. Organizing informatics assistance • partnership with ASTHO, • hands-on planning workshop in Palau, > linked immunization, vital stats and master patient databases EHR > CDC Mobilization for Prevention Partnerships grant proposal, - informatics consultations for specifications - funds for IT programming (linkages and/or configuring EHR) > case management > provider prompts =clinical/PH guidelines > disease management indicators • Work with CDC for toward immunization data sharing across jurisdictions.

  6. Strengthening Regional NCD Surveillance System • Assembly of USAPI NCD progress profile/issues brief • Input to MANA • Working with HLC, CDC, WHO and Univ of Hawaii: > update USAPI NCD surveillance framework, > enhance CDC support for school & community surveys > harmonize CDC surveys with WHO requirements, > secure placement in region of a CDC NCD epidemiologist

  7. Extension services (on request) • NCD surveillance planning, • Outbreak response and surveillance system improvement planning. • Assist analysis of local datasets, • Management indicators/dashboards, • Routine quarterly reporting templates (RMI, Am Samoa, Pohnpei in past 6 mos)

  8. Issues for Board Consideration • Endorsement of USAPI immunization data sharing agreement • Communique to CDC NCDPHP to request assistance: > Assist to provide Epi TA, including placement of regional NCD epidemiologist > Assure adequate BRFSS & YRBS funding support > Adapt BRFSS and YRBS for physical measurements & to fit with new WHO NCD Surveillance Framework > Help support delivery of EpiTech and Pacific FETP • Invite corrections to USAPI NCD Progress Profile • Use of new Epi/Data regional infrastructure strategically: > Clear identification of surveillance teams in your jurisdiction > Endorse EpiTech competencies (board packet) > Encourage/require enrollment of team members in EpiTech certificate program (for credit!) > Start with nominations to upcoming regional EpiTech courses (or arrange delivery in your jurisdiction)

  9. Quality Improvement (QI) and Performance Management Update

  10. Quality Improvement (QI) and Performance Management (PM) Brief • Progress Update (since August 2014) • SOP/Policies & Procedures Development Projects • Application of QA-QI-PM program standards assessment to QA-QI program strengthening projects • Pilot test of semester-long QI Basics and Practice Course in CNMI • QI program manuals development • Performance indicators, data dictionary, quality dashboard projects • Link PHTP in RMI to NPHII Community Health Assessment project • International Council on Nursing Leadership and Quality training program

  11. Issues for Board Consideration • Invite requests for: > SOP development projects, > QA-QI-PM assessment and strengthening, > Performance indicator development & methods dashboards > Support for college-partnered QI courses • Giving permission for PIHOA and ASTHO to share consultation reports with one another The partnership with ASTHO through the CDC Bundled Services depends upon close collaboration for success (see attached “Principles for Partnership” developed during joint PIHOA-ASTHO secretariat retreat in Nov, 2013). The services provided by both ASTHO and PIHOA will be much better coordinated if the two secretariats are permitted to freely share each other’s USAPI site visit reports. • Whether to call an end to the PIHOA QA-QI-PM initiative (when current grant obligations expire)
