  1. The Stages of Deliverance: A Spiritual Change ModeMin. rayvann Kee, Jr., M.A. “Operation: ACCESS DENIED”

  2. Ropes, Chains, & Jail Cells • What is bondage? Bondage is slavery or involuntary servitude; serfdom. It is the state of being bound by or subjected to some external power or control. • It is the state of being bound; condition of being under restraint; restraint of personal liberty by compulsion; involuntary servitude; slavery; captivity.

  3. How Does Bondage Related To Us? • The Bible says that: • “We are born in sin and shapen in iniquity.” • “By one man sin entered…” • “There is a war in our members…” • “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life.” • “Sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.”

  4. What Does This Mean? • The Enemy, by LEGAL right, has access to you and can bind you as he sees fit, PRE-SALVATION! • However, POST-SALVATION, the Enemy no longer has LEGAL right to INVOLUNTARILY bind you---He needs you to give him PERMISSION. • PERMISSION is granted through what we Think, Say, and Do. • Once PERMISSION is granted, the Enemy’s LEGAL rights are restored UNTIL access is DENIED.

  5. What Does Bondage Look Like? • Bondage implies that there is an element of CONTROL that characterizes what you are inclined to Think, Say, and Do. • In other words, REGARDLESS to whether you like or do not like what you are Thinking, Saying, or Doing, it is OUT OF YOUR CONTROL to either continue or stop! • This can better be described as ADDICTION • Sin is Addictive

  6. ADDICTION • What is Addiction? It is the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma. • It is the condition of being habitually or compulsively occupied with or involved in something. • According to the DSM-IV-TR, it is alluded to as Dependence, or a pattern of dependence that leads to significant distress and is characterized by (2) main components: Tolerance and Withdrawal

  7. Tolerance & Withdrawal • Tolerance : • The longer you engage in the behavior, the less it affects you. • You have to do more of it, in order to get the same feeling as before.

  8. Tolerance & Withdrawal Continued… • Withdrawal: • It is painful (physically, emotionally, and psychologically) to give it up. • You are compelled to substitute it with another addiction (a supposedly lesser one) in order to avoid the pain of giving up the first one.

  9. What’s Going On With You Now? • Frustration • Confusion • Anger • Resentment • Sadness • Depression • Anxiety • Panic

  10. What’s Going On With You Now? • Desperation • Feeling worthless • No self-esteem • Guilt • Shame • Embarrassment • Hopelessness • Helplessness

  11. What’s Going On With You Now? • Loneliness • Withdrawn • Isolated • Hurt • Scared • Lost • Powerless • Doomed

  20. What’s Binding You? • Lying • Stealing • Gossipping • Cursing • Worldly Friends • Unhealthy Relationships • Abusive Relationships • Rebelliousness

  21. What’s Binding You? • Impulsivity • Sexual Intercourse • Sexually Charged Activities • Pornography • Masturbation • Homosexuality • Bisexuality • Lesbianism

  22. What’s Binding You? • Chat Rooms • Party Lines • Phone Sex • Prostitution • Cigarettes • Weed/Blunts • Alcohol • Painkillers

  23. What’s Binding You? • Gambling • Lust • Pride • Fear • People • People’s Opinions • People’s Approval • People’s Attention

  24. What’s Binding You? • Money • Conceit (Self-Absorption) • Fame • Need for the Praise of People • Materialism • Food • Negativity • Laziness

  25. What Happened When You Got Saved? • All bondage, sin, and addiction lead to death. • However, death, hell, and the grave were rendered powerless in Jesus’ resurrection. “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is the victory? Death is swallowed up in Victory…” • So now, bondage, sin, and addiction have no power of their own; ONLY the power you give it. • Once again, that power or AUTHORITY must come from you through what you Think, Say, and Do.

  26. So, where’s my Deliverance? • Deliverance is yours! Jesus already took care of that! • It’s not about “getting deliverance”; it’s about “Walking In Deliverance”. • “Walking In Deliverance” entails a change in: • Your Thinking (Mind) • Your Speech (Spirit) • Your Behavior (Body)

  27. MIND • “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus” • “As a man thinketh, so is he” • “And be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…” • “And whatsoever things are true,…think on these things” • “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee”

  28. SPIRIT • “And God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostril the breath of life, and man became a living soul” • “Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh” • “Death and Life are in the power of the tongue” • “Call those things that be not as though they were” • “Take the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God”

  29. Body • “ I beseech ye therefore brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies…” • “What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holyghost, which is in you, …and you are not your own?” • “We are fearfully and wonderfully made” • “If thine right eye offend thee, pluck it out…” • “But I keep under my body…”

  30. What Stage Are You In? • According to the work of Prochaska and Diclemente, the transtheoretical model of change posits that there are six(6) stages of change: • Precontemplation (I’m cool, I don’t need to change) • Contemplation (I need to reconsider) - Thought • Preparation (Let me set this up right) – Speech • Action (Let me put these tools to work) – Behavior • Maintenance (Self-inventory) – Referencing the Word • Relapse Prevention (Permanent Changes in People, Places, and things + (Steps 2-5)) – New Lifestyle

  31. Movement Through the Stages • Oftentimes, one finds him or herself in a stage in which they are stuck. • For each stage, there is a strategy to move from that stage to the next: • “I like/love what I’m doing” stage – You will move when you are no longer getting anything out of it. • “I really need to re-consider---I’m tired of this” stage – You will move when the pros for change outweigh the cons against change.

  32. Movement Through the Stages Continued… • “Let me make some changes if I’m gonna really do this” stage – You will move when your concern is not changing for others or to meet someone else’s expectations of you, but now you realize you have to do this for yourself. • “It’s On” stage – you will move once you realize that it’s working, your quality of life is improving, and that you have what it takes to see change happen for you.

  33. Movement Through the Stages Continued… • “I’m gonna keep this up because I’m liking this” stage – you will move when you realize you’ve been making progress too long to let it all go to waste. • “I refuse to go back” stage – at this point you will do anything to ensure your change. People will acknowledge that you have changed and what bound you before begins to have little to no pull on you anymore. Staying changed by any means necessary becomes your message to others.

  34. Most Important • We Need God • Only God can bring about Change • However, we are also partly responsible for our change. • “After that the Holyghost has come upon you, ye shall have power…” • God is not going to do it all! • If you make one step, He’ll make two!

  35. People, Places, and Things • There is nothing wrong with people, places, and/or things. • HOWEVER, the “WRONG” people, places, and/or things will lead to destruction! • (1) Sick person + (1) or more sick persons = a sick situation • “ (2) dead batteries cannot jump start a car” • “Come out from among them and be ye separated saith the Lord…”

  36. What do you need Deliverance From? • Whatever it is, today is your day! • This is your year! • It starts with the right mindset and attitude • God can deliver from ANYTHING! • YOU MUST: • Cut some people off (friend, family, or foe) • Stay away from some places (all 5 senses) • Give up some things (possessions and items)

  37. Initial Prayer of Deliverance • Lord, I am in need of your strength and power. I acknowledge that I have allowed something in my life that keeps me in the state of defeat. Right now, Lord, I renounce ______________________________ and it’s right to be in my life. Lord, I’m asking you to wash me in and cover me with your precious blood, as I shut the door of access to these bondages in my life. I renounce Satan and declare that I do not desire the things of Satan in my life. Lord, help me to change my thoughts, speech, and behaviors to reflect my claim on deliverance. Help me to walk in deliverance and teach me to be diligent to stay in and move forward in the process. I love you Lord and thank you Lord. IN JESUS’ NAME, Amen.

  38. Once You Are Walking In Deliverance • Stay in connection with God through prayer, praise, and worship • Stay around folk who are delivered or striving be delivered • Stay away from negativity • Stay away from people who do not have their own motivation to be delivered---they will drain you! • Come to church regardless! • Be open to the Constructive Criticism of those who are delivered---It’s about accountability; not being judgmental!
