  1. CIVL114 _________LAB 3: Gauge Block

  2. Outline • Page Set-up • Creating Layers, setting color & linetype • Commands • Draw Lines • Round Corners • Drawing the hidden & Center Lines • Dimensioning

  3. 1 Page Set-up • Limits • Set up a boundary for drawing (not essential) • Point • Draw a point at the right top corner

  4. Limits • limits “enter”  “enter”  420,297”enter” • Point • Point  “enter”  420,297

  5. 1 Page Set-up • Zoom all (z – a) • zooms out to display the whole drawing • Zoom extents (z – e) • To display everything that has been drawn (useful) • Also try z – 0.7x, etc. • Grid • Background points for visual reference • Snap • Affects point selection but invisible

  6. Zoom all (also try zoom extents) • z”enter”  a”enter” • Grid • Grid”enter”10”enter” • Snap • Snap”enter10”enter”

  7. 2 Create Layers, Set colour & linetype • New layers • Add two layers “ctrline” and “hdnline” • Set color • give color to the layer • Linetype • Change it to center line or hidden line

  8. New layers • Click “format”  click “layer properties manager” •  “new layer”  type “ ctrline”  “new layer”  type “hdnline” • Set color • pick “white” (default)  select “red” and “green” respectively  ok • Linetype • Pick “continuous” (default) load  center line or hidden line  ok  select center line or hidden line  ok  ok

  9. 3 Draw Lines • Line

  10. 1 2 3 • Line • L  “enter” 200,20 ”enter” • @50<90  “enter”@50<180 “enter”@26<90  “enter” • @50<180  “enter”@76<270  “enter”@100<0  “enter” 4 5 6

  11. 4 Round Corners • Fillet • To round a corner • Circle

  12. Fillet • Fillet  “enter”  R  “enter” 19”enter” •  pick line A and line B  “enter” or fillet pick line E and line F • Circle • C  “enter”  cen   “enter”  pick lower left arc  9.5  “enter”

  13. 5 Draw Lines in Side View • Copy • CP or CO • Line • L

  14. Copy • CP pick line A  “enter”  pick any point on the screen  @25<0  “enter” • Cp L  “enter” pick any point on the screen  @50<0  “enter” • Line • L end  pick the lower end of line I •  end  pick the lower end of line H  “enter”

  15. 5. Draw Lines in Side View • OFFSET • Creates parallel copies of lines, circles, arcs, or polylines • EXTEND • Extend a line to a boundary

  16. OFFSET • Offset  “enter”  76  pick the line I  pick any point above I  “enter” Line I • EXTEND • pick the line J  “enter”  pick lines G and H  “enter • OFFSET • Offset  “enter”  50  pick the line I  pick any point above I  “enter” Line J Line G Line H

  17. 6. Draw the hidden & center Lines • Zoom windows • Z “enter” w  ”enter” 80,0  ”enter”290,110 “enter” • Hidden Lines • Pick layer “HDNLINE”

  18. Line (you can switch on OSNAP and click points for QUA, PER, etc) • L ”enter” .y ”enter” QUA “enter”  pick the top part of circle  end pick either end of line G  PER  pick the line H  “enter” • L ”enter” .y ”enter” QUA “enter”  pick the lower part of circle  end pick either end of line G  PER  pick the line H  “enter”

  19. 6. Draw the hidden & center lines (cont.) • Center Line • Pick layer “CTRLINE” • L ”enter” .y ”enter” CEN “enter”  pick the circle  end pick either end of line G  PER  pick the line H  “enter”

  20. Center Line • L “enter”  QUA  “enter”  pick the top part of circle  QUA  “enter”  pick the lower part of circle • L “enter”  QUA  “enter”  pick the left part of circle  QUA  “enter”  pick the right part of circle

  21. 6. Draw the hidden & center lines (cont.) • Scale • SCALE (or click the SCALE icon)  “enter”  pick center lines in circle  INT (or use OSNAP)  pick intersection of the 2 center lines 1.5  “enter” • SCALE  “enter”  pick center lines inside view  MID pick the 2 center lines 1.2  “enter”

  22. 7. Dimensioning • Dim (or use the menu) • Dim “enter” dimscale “enter” 18 “enter” hor  ”enter” end  ”pick LHS of D” end ”pick RHS of D” ”move mouse to suitable place & click left button” “enter” Others: ver/ra/dia….etc (all available from dimension menu)

  23. 8 Modify the dimension style • Change the precision • Click “dimension”  click “dimension style manager” click “modify” click “primary units” click “precision”  0
