Other Educational Activities • Marion County Health Department (MCHD) will encourage schools, universities, businesses, churches and other agencies to plan for pandemic influenza and to share their planning with students, staff, constituents, and others • Packets and brochures will be available to assist you from MCHD

  6. Cities Readiness Initiative (CRI)

  7. CRI • Is a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) pilot program • Aids cities in increasing capacity to deliver medicines and medical supplies during a large-scale public health emergency in a timeframe that will make an appreciable health difference • Currently has as a planning scenario of an aerosolized anthrax attack requiring prophylaxis of the entire Indianapolis Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA)

  8. CRI • Requires the Marion County Health Department to lead the planning for mass prophylaxis of the Indianapolis MSA • 10 counties – Marion, Boone, Hendricks, Hancock, Hamilton, Johnson, Shelby, Morgan, Brown and Putman

  9. CRI • Requires mass prophylaxis of the entire population be completed within 48 hours of the decision to do so • Includes 12 hours that CDC has to get the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) to the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) and the time ISDH needs to get it to the local Points of Dispensing (PODS) • In reality will have about 32 hours to dispense medication to the public

  10. Marion County Health Department’s (MCHD) CRI Planning • MCHD will open public mass prophylaxis sites around the city • Hospital systems will provide prophylaxis to staff and their families • MCHD will partner with large employers who have health care providers on staff to provide prophylaxis to staff and their families • MCHD will partner with other agencies to reach the special populations
