  1. Prochlorophyta • The only group of photosynthetic bacteria to have both chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b • Chlorophyll b is a yellow-green pigment, that absorbs light energy that is not absorb by chlorophyll a. • Some members of Prochlorophyta can be found as symbionts in the tissue of marine vertebrates.

  2. Prochlorococcus, is the most abundant genus of photosynthetic organisms. • The prochlorophytes are oxygenic prokaryotes differing from other cyanobacteria by the presence of a light-harvesting system containing both chlorophylls. • The names of both the chlorophylls, are A and another is B, as I stated in the previous slide!!!

  3. The marine prochlorophyte Prochlorococcus, contributes significantly to phytoplankton biomass and primary production in the sea. • Prochlorococcus marinus is often numerically dominant in the euphotic zone of the tropical and subtropical ocean; however, its contribution to phytoplankton biomass and primary production is largely unknown.

  4. Didemnum molle, one of the ascidians (tunicates) that harbors Prochloron.

  5. Lissoclinumbistratum, is also another host to Prochloron
