  7. The Power of lies… Colossians 3:9-10(NIV) Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. Mark Garner, YWAM

  8. The Father of the Lie, is the Devil. John 8:44: “You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” Mark Garner, YWAM

  9. N.A. Berdyaev: “The lie plays a tremendous role in human life. The world is swallowed up in lies….Not only do people that are by nature liars lie, but also uprightly truthful people. They lie not only consciously, but also without awareness. People live in fear, and the lie is a weapon of defense. The structure of consciousness is deformed by the function of lie, begotten by fear.”…lie is mortared into the foundation of the organisation of society. Mark Garner, YWAM

  10. Deceive is the trickier cousin of lie. You might lie about why you were late to school. But if you simply don't explain to your mom that you were late in the first place, you are deceiving her. Deceive carries with it a feeling of both craftiness and betrayal. When you deceive someone, forgiveness can be hard to come by. Have you heard of the spelling rule, "i before e except after c" that has so many exceptions? Well, deceive follows that rule. Mark Garner, YWAM

  11. Lies have sent more people to Hell than any other sin. Even pride is based on a lie: I am better than you, I deserve more than you, I, I, I. Dictionary.com: Pride: a high or inordinate opinion of one's own dignity, importance, merit, or superiority, whether as cherished in the mind or as displayed in bearing, conduct, etc. Mark Garner, YWAM

  12. Add to this GUILT and you have Satan’s chief weapons: “Why does Satan accuse us? What is his objective? It can be stated in one simple phrase: to make us feel guilty. So long as Satan can keep us feeling guilty, we cannot defeat him. Guilt is the key to our defeat, and righteousness is the key to our victory”. Derek Prince Spiritual Warfare, page 41. Mark Garner, YWAM

  13. Guilt: God through the cross has dealt with guilt. Col. 2:13: “He forgives us all our sins” (NIV). God makes provision for our future: Col. 2:14: Think of it! All sins forgiven, the slate wiped clean, that old arrest warrant canceled and nailed to Christ’s cross. He stripped all the spiritual tyrants in the universe of their sham authority at the Cross and marched them naked through the streets. 2 Cor. 2:14: In the Messiah, in Christ, God leads us from place to place in one perpetual victory parade. Through us, he brings knowledge of Christ. Everywhere we go, people breathe in the exquisite fragrance.

  14. Shame: “the painful feeling arising from the consciousness of something dishonorable, improper, ridiculous, etc., done by oneself or another: She was overcome with shame. “ Dictionary.com Guilt is judicial in character; shame is relational. Though related to guilt, shame emphasizes sin's effect on self-identity.. The first response of Adam and Eve to their sinful condition was to hide from God, and consequently from one another ( Gen 3:7-8 ; 2:25 ). There is no shame in Christ. Mark Garner, YWAM

  15. Christ wants to outwork His victory in us: Col. 2:15: “And having disarmed the power and authorities {Satan’s whole evil kingdom}, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” (NIV) This verse celebrates the victory! Mark Garner, YWAM

  16. We can change the neuron paths in our brain by our lies. Romans I declares: 18-21 Now the holy anger of God is disclosed from Heaven against the godlessness and evil of those men who render truth dumb and inoperative by their wickedness. It is not that they do not know the truth about God; indeed he has made it quite plain to them. For since the beginning of the world the invisible attributes of God, e.g. his eternal power and divinity, have been plainly discernible through things which he has made and which are commonly seen and known, thus leaving these men without a rag of excuse.

  17. Romans 1: 18ff: They knew all the time that there is a God, yet they refused to acknowledge him as such, or to thank him for what he is or does. Thus they became fatuous in their argumentations, and plunged their silly minds still further into the dark. 22-23 Behind a facade of “wisdom” they became just fools, fools who would exchange the glory of the eternal God for an imitation image of a mortal man, or of creatures that run or fly or crawl. 24 They gave up God: and therefore God gave them up—to be the playthings of their own foul desires in dishonouring their own bodies. Mark Garner, YWAM

  18. Jesus said: John 4:23-24 “It’s who you are and the way you live that count before God. Your worship must engage your spirit in the pursuit of truth. That’s the kind of people the Father is out looking for: those who are simply and honestly themselves before him in their worship. God is sheer being itself—Spirit. Those who worship him must do it out of their very being, their spirits, their true selves, in adoration.” Mark Garner, YWAM

  19. It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. 2For through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope. 6For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. Mark Garner, YWAM

  20. In matters of truth and justice, there is no difference between large and small problems, for issues concerning the treatment of people are all the same.Albert Einstein.

  21. The Power of Flat Out Lies, Kevin Drum, Sept 23, 2011, www.motherjones.com. Comment from a Demoncrat: “Sure, we cherry-pick evidence, we spin world events, and we impose our worldview when we talk about policy. Everyone does that. But generally speaking, our opinion leaders don't go on national TV, look straight into the camera, and just outright lie about stuff. Theirs do. … It's awfully hard to fight stuff this brazen. Everyone understands that politicians fudge details and engage in partisan hypocrisy. All part of the game. But most of us don't expect them to flat out lie. So when they do, we figure there must be something to it. It's a pretty powerful formula,…”

  22. Lies are powerful • Because they are immensely destructive. • Because they lead to strongholds in our life. • Because they lead to separation from family, friends and God. Intimacy is impossible. • Because they lead to loss of reality. Ex. Addictions. • Because they produce rejection of what is loving, kind and just. • Because they bring us into Satan’s territory, bondage and jurisdiction.

  23. Wave after waveLies attack us: • Physically • Emotionally • Mentally • Relationally • Spiritually

  24. Invest in Being truthfulInvest in Being transparentDon’t wear the flimsy life-jacket of lies and deception.

  25. Invest in asking and receiving forgiveness, in breaking offnegative thinking and expectations.Vows and Judgments.

  26. Invest in Maintenanceof Relationships in honesty, humility and truth even when it hurts. Be courageous. Risk in Faith. Photo: Deb Chase

  27. Invest in Repair of broken trust and broken promises.

  28. Teach me Your way, O Lord, that I may walk and live in Your truth; direct and unite my heart [solely, reverently] to fear and honor Your name Psalm 86:11. Get rid of Deceptive practices and deceptive thinking.

  29. Rather, let our lives lovingly express truth [in all things, speaking truly, dealing truly, living truly]. Enfolded in love, let us grow up in every way and in all things into Him Who is the Head, [even] Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One). Ephesians 4: 15

  30. Therefore, rejecting all falsity and being done now with it, let everyone express the truth with his neighbor, for we are all parts of one body and members one of another. Ephesians 4: 25

  31. Jesus said to him, I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by (through) Me. John 14: 6

  32. If we say we have no sin [refusing to admit that we are sinners], we delude and lead ourselves astray, and the Truth [which the Gospel presents] is not in us [does not dwell in our hearts]. John 1: 8 • Little children, let us not love [merely] in theory or in speech but in deed and in truth (in practice and in sincerity). 1 John 3: 18

  33. By mercy and love, truth and fidelity [to God and man--not by sacrificial offerings], iniquity is purged out of the heart, and by the reverent, worshipful fear of the Lord men depart from and avoid evil. Proverbs 16: 6

  34. The Spirit of Truth, Whom the world cannot receive (welcome, take to its heart), because it does not see Him or know and recognize Him. But you know and recognize Him, for He lives with you [constantly] and will be in you. John 14: 17

  35. John 16: 13 : But when He, the Spirit of Truth (the Truth-giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all the Truth (the whole, full Truth). For He will not speak His own message [on His own authority]; but He will tell whatever He hears [from the Father; He will give the message that has been given to Him], and He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come [that will happen in the future].

  36. To have victory we need to: Have a love of righteousness and a hatred of evil. Love truth and hate lies. Be transparent, open and vulnerable. Confess and repent when you sin, say and mean it when you say you are sorry. Be heavenly minded not earthly minded . Have fear of God and not fear of man.

  37. Sanctify them [purify, consecrate, separate them for Yourself, make them holy] by the Truth; Your Word is Truth. John 17: 17

  38. O send out Your light and Your truth, let them lead me; let them bring me to Your holy hill and to Your dwelling. Psalm 43: 3

  39. The sum of Your word is truth [the total of the full meaning of all Your individual precepts]; and every one of Your righteous decrees endures forever. Psalm 119: 160

  40. But when He, the Spirit of Truth (the Truth-giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all the Truth (the whole, full Truth). For He will not speak His own message [on His own authority]; but He will tell whatever He hears [from the Father; He will give the message that has been given to Him], and He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come [that will happen in the future]. John 16: 13

  41. Sanctify them [purify, consecrate, separate them for Yourself, make them holy] by the Truth; Your Word is Truth. John 17: 17

  42. Pilate said to Him, Then You are a King? Jesus answered, You say it! [You speak correctly!] For I am a King. [Certainly I am a King!] This is why I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the Truth. Everyone who is of the Truth [who is a friend of the Truth, who belongs to the Truth] hears and listens to My voice.John 18: 37

  43. A response: Psalms 119:25-32 • I’m feeling terrible—I couldn’t feel worse!    Get me on my feet again. You promised, remember? When I told my story, you responded;    train me well in your deep wisdom.Help me understand these things inside and out    so I can ponder your miracle-wonders.My sad life’s dilapidated, a falling-down barn;    build me up again by your Word.Barricade the road that goes Nowhere;    grace me with your clear revelation.I choose the true road to Somewhere,    I post your road signs at every curve and corner.I grasp and cling to whatever you tell me;God, don’t let me down!I’ll run the course you lay out for me    if you’ll just show me how.
