  3. The purpose of today’s workshop is to inform students of the OUAC /OCAS online application process. Recommended Steps: • 1. Determine your graduation status • 2. Research and select appropriate destinations for post secondary education • 3. Understand the application process for university (OUAC) and college (OCAS).

Check Your Status Sheet Check your O.S.S.D. requirements: • Credit Count (30 credits: 18 compulsory and 12 optional selections) • Community Involvement (40 Hrs) • OSSLT/OLC4O0 (Literacy Test or Course) • Confirm that you are enrolled in or have already completed specific prerequisite courses for your University (Six 4U and or 4M courses) and College (ENG4C + OSSD)

Research and ChooseAppropriate Destinations for Post Secondary Education • Utilize resources in Student Services such as post secondary calendars and print resources • Conduct research using www.myblueprint.ca/peelwww.careercruising.com www.makingmyway.caand others • Consult with your parents, teachers, and guidance counsellors as needed to assist with finalizing your decisions

  6. Understand the application process for University Apply to all Ontario Universities online through OUAC at www.ouac.on.ca Visit the eInfo site for research OUAC Passwords will soon be available in Student Services. Listen for announcements

Information You Will Need Before Starting Your Application • A valid & appropriate email account to communicate with the application centre. • The HB school number for OUAC 943916 • Your OUAC Password • Your address and postal code • A Credit Card or other means to pay for the application. • Knowledge of the programs that you are applying for

  8. OUAC Demonstration • www.ouac.on.ca • Select “(OUAC 101) Current Year Ontario Secondary School Students” • Select “101 Online Application” and then select “Create Profile” • Or Select “Browse Programs” to do research You may now apply online or do research

  9. Understand the application process for College Apply to all Ontario Colleges online through OCAS at www.ontariocolleges.ca Select “Apply Now" and “Sign Up" You will create your own username and password

  11. OCAS Demonstration • www.ocas.on.ca • Select “Apply Now” • Under the heading “Sign Up”, you may create a new account • Or to do research, select “Programs” from the home page and then select a college or a key word You may now apply online or do research

  12. Create aBACKUP PLAN Plan for your first choice of destination/program, and have a backup plan ready. Your backup plan(s) may be to: • Apply to a different university and/or college • Apply to alternate programs of study • Consider an apprenticeship program • Plan work, travel, or other learning experiences

  13. Frequently Asked Questions… What is the application deadline? OUAC: Apply by January 16th, 2019 for equal consideration. OCAS: February 1st, 2019 for equal consideration

  14. …Frequently Asked Questions Is there a fee for my application? Yes! OUAC: $150.00 for 3 choices and $50.00 for each additional choice OCAS: $95.00 for five choices

  15. OUAC Please Note!!!! • If you make changes to programs that you have paid for, you will be charged $50 for each change. • Make sure of your choices before you pay or you will be required to pay additional fees for changes.

  16. …Frequently Asked Questions How do I pay for my selections? a) Credit Card online (processed immediately) b) Telephone with Credit Card (processed fairly quickly) c) Money Order or Cheque (takes longer to process)

  17. …Frequently Asked Questions Where do I get my P.I.N. for my University application? • From Student Services! Pick up your PIN by signing it out with a staff member in Student Services before school, on your lunch or after school (November arrival). • Remember to record your P.I.N. to prevent problems if you forget it!

  18. …Frequently Asked Questions How will I know if I’m accepted to University? • OUAC online will show your acceptance status. Check your file regularly for updates. • Universities will mail you a letter stating that a conditional acceptance is offered. Note:Conditional means that your average grade must stay the same or increase! Even a drop of 1% could result in your offer being recinded.

  19. …Frequently Asked Questions How will I know if I’m accepted to College? • OCAS online will show your acceptance status.   20. Important Dates - University • May 29, 2019 – The latest date by which all secondary school applicants shall expect a response from an Ontario University with: • an offer of admission • a refusal • or a deferral pending the receipt of specific additional information

  21. …Important Dates - University • June 3, 2019 – The earliest date by which Ontario Universities may require a response to an offer of admission. Note: This allows students time to receive responses from all Universities before accepting or turning down an offer of admission.

  22. Important Dates - College • Feb. 1st - Earliest release of offers by colleges • May 1st – Last date you must confirm your acceptance of an offer of admission • Mid-June – Earliest date colleges may require payment of tuition fees.

  23. We Recommend that All students Apply Early! The online application sites often are overloaded and may crash during the last few days before the deadline. Start and complete your application as soon as possible

  24. Keep Organized • Create a filing system so each university/college has a separate file • Keep ALL correspondence from that university/college choice as you may need it later (supplementary applications, residence applications, etc)
