Tyre Tests and Facilities at MGI - Hungarian Institute of Agricultural Engineering

MGI has been conducting tyre tests since 1975 for development and research purposes, including tyre-soil interaction studies. Our facilities allow for rolling radius tests, contact surface tests, wear and long-term tests of tyres, drum tests, traction performance tests, and more.

  1. Skills and Facilities in the MGI(Hungarian Institute of Agricultural Engineering – Gödöllő) Tyre tests

  2. MGI is carrying out tyre tests since 1975 • Investigations to support the development • Research purposes (tyre-soil interaction)

  3. Tyre test facilities • Rolling radius tests • Contact surface tests • Wear and long term tests of tires (lugs broken) on concrete surface • Drum tests (rapid durability test of side wall) • Traction performance tests on „measuring tractor” • Traction and other tyre characteristics tests on single wheel tester

  4. Wear and long term tests of lugs (broken) on concrete surface 0,5 – 1,5% wheel slip, overloaded and under inflated tires Round track diameter: 50 m

  5. Drum tests (rapid durability test of side wall) Overloaded and under inflated tires 30 km/h peripheral speed

  6. Traction performance tests on „measuring tractor” Tractor type. John Deere 6920S

  7. Positioning scheme of the sensors assembled on the tractor 1 - sensor and transmitter of torque on drive-shaft (propshaft) to front axle 2- transmitter of speed onfront wheels 5 3 - sensor and transmitter of torque on rear wheel hubs, 6 4 - transmitter of speed on rear wheel hub, 5 - transmitter of speed on PTO, 6 - measuring unit of drawbar pull - dynamometer, 7 - measuring unit of travelling speed (radar sensor) 3 3 4 1 7 2

  8. Measuring the torque on the rear wheel hub and implementation of the front wheel drive operation system

  9. Dynamometer vehicle

  10. Traction and other tyre characteristics tests on single wheel tester

  11. FAST2 -Field, Asphalt, Soil bin Tyre Tester Main geometrical and functional parameter

  12. The feasible tests with the device are: • rolling radius test • rolling resistance test on road • motion resistance test in the field • wheel slip test • net traction test • vertical load test

  13. Thank you for your kind attention!
