  2. The Utilization of Innovation Diffusion Theory to Prevent Diarrhea Disease in children from Yangon Ms.Pa Pa Min ,No.(17) YangyiAung street, Yangon 11023 Myanmar(ms.papa.min.aiu@gmail.com) G01 SHL1013 Professional English (11 December 2013) Background & Urgency of the Problem Proposed Poster Design Timeline & Implementation Strategy • Diarrhea is the second most common children disease in Myanmar. • 21% of children dying of diarrhea. • Diarrhea is caused by water, food and bacteria. • Most of the guardians are lack of health knowledge. • . • Week 1: Design and production of posters • Week 2: poster distribution and persuasion • Week 3: Implementation 6 steps to prevent diarrhea Save the Children from Diarrhea 4 1 Projected Challenges & Solutions Drink hydrated salt water • Ignorance – According Rogers’s Innovation Diffusion Theory, Burmese guardians may be ignored to implement new system. (Clark,1991,para.4).Solution- Using proper method • Difficulty - According to Festinger’s Cognitive Dissonance Theory, burmese guardians may be opposed to change their behavioral. (McLeod,2008,para2.). Solution – Giving simple steps Statement of the Problem & Proposal Use boil water or SSID water. In three week ,I’ll create 3 Burmese-English posters that show 6 steps for Burmese guardians can implement (Newman,1990,para1)how to reduce the at least 50% of diarrhea causes (Hansa,2012,para.2-4)in their children below 5 years old in 1 month.(Moe,2005,para.2) 5 2 Get treatment for rotavirus Feed mother Brest milk References 6 3 Hansa. Retrieved 1 Dece 2013 from www.simplypsychology.org Assumptions of the Study Avoid spicy food and diary product • The Guardians from Yangon can follow(Rogers,1931) the 6 steps on the 3 posters to reduce the 50% of diarrhea causes(Hansa,2012,para. 2-4) in their children below 5 years old.(Moe ,2005,para .2) in a month. • A poster show Burmese guardians how to prevent diarrhea disease in children. • Roger’s innovation diffusion theory can help to give information and persuasion the steps of preventing diarrhea.. Clean Hand before and after meal F Procedures Summary of the Theory INITIATING - Check the possibility of the proposal DEFINING - Classify the probability of the proposal COLLECTING- Collect data about the rate of diarrhea disease DRAFTING - Create a poster PLANNING - Look for the member who can be communicate with benefitctories PERSUASION - Select 10 guardians to give knowledge and persuade about the poster IMPLEMENTING – Post the posters with the board in top of each street CHECKING – Check the improving of process by collecting data INVESTIGATEING- Investigate the data EVALUATING - Evaluate the result of process within three-weeks • The theory of health as praxis claimed that “the person recognizing that there is a change and incorporating that transformation which is essential to the expansion of that individual life”(Newman,1990). • The innovation diffusion theory claimed that “the process by which that innovation is that communicated through certain channels over time among the members of a social system”(Rogers, 1931 About the Writer Statement of the Thesis Theoretical Application Miss Pa Pa Min is a computer science scholar from Albukhary International University student .She is from Myanmar and she made this proposal because she has experience on her environment about diarrhoea disease. • Using theory of health as praxis and innovation diffusion theory, Burmese guardians can implement the 6 steps on the 3 posters to prevent the 3 causes by water, food and bacteria of diarrhea in children below 5 years old. • . • In week 1, designing the poster stage, we use theory of health to introduce the disease and to cure and prevent the disease . ”(Newman,1990) • In Week 2, Poster distribution stage, we can use the first and second stage of roger’s innovation diffusion theory. (Rogers, 1931) • In week 3, the last stage of confirmation can implement to adopt or reject the steps. 4. 4.0. Innovation Diffusion Theory (SUMMARY) • “The process by which that innovation is that communicated through certain channels over time among the members of a social system”(Roger,1931) Clark,R.(1991). A Primer in Diffusion of Innovations Theory. Retrieved 1 december,2013 from www.rogerclarke.com

  5. 4.1. THEORETICAL APPLICATION/ ANALYSIS • Distribution posters of preventing diarrhea. • In Week 2, Poster distribution stage, we can use the first and second stage of roger’s innovation diffusion theory. (Rogers, 1931) • In week 3, the last stage of confirmation can implement to adopt or reject the steps. (Rogers, 1931)
