  2. Agenda • Introduction on Ethernet • What is Wireless Ethernet? • What is IEEE stand for ? • Strength and weaknesses of Wired Ethernet and Wireless Ethernet.

  3. What is Ethernet? • Ethernet is a protocol that controls the way data is transmitted over a local area network (LAN). • It uses wires (meaning it is not a wireless technology). + With Network card Wire Ethernet

  4. What is wireless Ethernet • A WLAN is a type of Local Area Network (LAN) that uses high frequency radio waves rather than wires to communicate and transmit data.

  5. What is IEEE? • Stand For :Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers • Defines such wireless technologies as Bluetooth and WiFi • IEEE developed a set of network standards. • The standards establish an authoritative common language that defines quality and sets technical criteria.

  6. What is IEEE (Continued ) • IEEE 802.11 is standard for WLAN/WiFi • IEEE 802.3 standard for Ethernet • IEEE 802.15.1 standard for Bluetooth • ABGN

  8. Advantages of Wired Ethernet • Receiving fast information/Better performance • Inexpensive and it is cheap. • Transfer information swiftly compare to wireless net work. • Low cost • Much more secure than wireless network.

  9. Disadvantages of Wired Ethernet • It is expensive • Inconvenience from moving around your house. • It may slow down the network if add more computer result in unexpected expense if run out of connection.

  11. Advantages of Wireless Ethernet • Neat and Clean, no untidy cables. • It is Flexible to access within a limited range. • Setup - Those without a great deal of networking experience can set up a wireless network.

  12. Disadvantages of Wireless Ethernet • High cost and expensive. • Reliability – if one major section breaks down (eg. Router), the whole network will be affected. • Significantly slower than a wired Ethernet. • The network can be less stable. Wireless reception may be impaired by a number of factors including large distances.
