  2. COMPASS 21 engages the whole Church Body to communicate and invest in the children and youth of the church.

  3. Compass 21 engages a TEAM of at least 10-12 committed members to self-evaluate their current youth ministry.

  4. Compass 21 empowers that team to set 5 Priority Goals and Action Plans.

  5. Compass 21 equips the youth ministry team through a Trained Compass 21 Facilitator and Shared Resources.

  18. Fredericton’s 5 Top Priority Goals: Relational – We help each young person build a love relationship with Jesus Christ, personally and in community.

  19. Fredericton’s 5 Top Priority Goals: Transformational– We challenge and provide opportunities for our youth to express their faith by becoming involved in service that is directed toward changing society and the world in which they live.

  20. Fredericton’s 5 Top Priority Goals: Evangelistic – We expand the church through empowering youth to respond to God’s call, living their lives for Him.

  22. Action Plans for each Goal: Goal #1 – We effectively build a personal relationship with each young person God places in our care.

  23. Action Plans for Goal #1: Action – Build time into every session for a personal, fun, informal conversation, i.e., What was the best part of your week? What was the worst part of your week?

  24. Action Plans for Goal #1: Action – Each teacher/leader to make prayer for students an integral part of their preparation. Seek accountability that works for you, i.e., keeping a prayer list, leader’s group prayer, etc….

  25. Action Plans for each Goal: Action Plans for Goal #1: Action – Plan at least ___ activities that are outside the lesson and/or classroom per year.

  31. Action Plans for Goal #1: Action – As a church, make sure we are taking advantage of social settings to interact with our youth, i.e., Family Camp, Sliding party, etc….

  32. Action Plans for Goal #1: Action – Make sure that both the overall church environment and classroom spaces are a place where youth have the freedom to express themselves, i.e., painting walls, hanging posters, serving juice for kids when coffee is served, etc….

  33. Action Plans for Goal #1: Action – Be prepared when students arrive so that you are interacting with them right away. Plan ahead.

Question for Congregation: Relational Action-Oriented Goal – We will effectively build a personal relationship with each young person God places in our care by spending time with youth, praying for each one by name, recognizing them, caring for them, respecting them, and connecting with them.

  35. Question for Congregation: As a Fredericton church member, what are you doing to intentionally build relationships with children and youth in our church?

  36. Action Plans for each Goal: Goal #2 – You help each young person build a love relationship with Jesus Christ, personally and in community.

  37. Action Plans for Goal #2: Action – Share your faith journey with your students.

  38. Action Plans for Goal #2: Action – Within each youth program, plan at least one community service project per year, with teaching prior to carrying through on the project.

  39. Action Plans for Goal #2: Action – Bring in a guest (or use other resources) to tell his or her faith story.

  40. Action Plans for Goal #2: Action – Make time to ask thought-provoking, faith-based questions that encourage students to talk about their relationships with Jesus Christ.

Action Plans for Goal #2: Action – Implement and maintain a youth ministries’ 3-step process to build love relationships with Jesus Christ where each youth is… 1) Introduced to Jesus Christ; 2) Challenged to make a commitment to Jesus Christ; 3) Discipled in their relationships with Jesus Christ.

  42. Action Plans for Goal #2: Action – Make sure that we are communicating/reflecting the joy--and fun-- that is involved in our relationships with Jesus Christ.

  43. Action Plans for Goal #2: Action – Make sure that every time you meet with youth you are teaching them Biblical truths through word and/or deed.

Question for Congregation: Relational Action-Oriented Goal – We help each young person build a love relationship with Jesus Christ, personally and in community, by telling our faith stories, sharing the joy found in Jesus, teaching Biblical truths, planning service projects, and challenging and discipling our youth.

  47. Action Plans for Goal #3: Action – Take our high school youth on SERVE at least once during their high school years. We recommend offering a SERVE experience every other year.

  48. Action Plans for Goal #3: Action – Occasionally choose a SERVE experience outside of North America.

  49. Action Plans for Goal #3: Action – Encourage students in each program to identify social justice causes and to become involved in righting one of these wrongs.
