  4. EITC – What is it? How can the EITC Help AHA? • In order to keep tuition resonable, we need to understand what the EITC is and how it benefits the AHA. • We need supplement the operating budget deficit

  6. How can parents help? EITC • This deficit can be eliminated in the future by really finding individuals and companies that can participate in EITC. • This is a painless way to help Abrams and basically costs nothing out of pocket. • As you will learn, EITC is an excellent way to keep our costs under control • This solution is better than increasing tuition by nearly $1300 per student in the future to cover our actual costs

EITC - Educational Income Tax Credit • A Pennsylvania-based company’s taxes can become the community school’s best asset! • The EITC provides tax credit to eligible companies that contributing to a Scholarship Organization, an Educational Improvement Organization, and/or a Pre-Kindergarten Scholarship Organization.

  8. EITC - Educational Income Tax Credit AHA participates in the program through the Foundation for Jewish Day School of Greater Philadelphia, a joint partnership of Federation and the Six Day Schools in the Region.

  9. EITC – Which companies qualify? • Businesses authorized to do business in Pennsylvania who are subject to one or more of the following taxes: • Corporate Net Income Tax • Capital Stock Franchise Tax for banks and public corps • Bank and Trust Company Shares Tax • Title Insurance Companies Shares Tax • Insurance Premiums Tax • Mutual Thrift Institution Tax • Personal Income Tax of S corporation shareholders or Partnership partners.

EITC – What does a company need to do to participate in the program? • If the company meets the participation criteria (see brochure posted on the web site), a simple ONE page application is all that’s required. • The company can complete the application for: • SO - Scholarship Organization • A company can receive 75% of its contribution up to a maximum of $300,000 per taxable year; Can be increased to 90% of the contribution, if business agrees to provide same amount for two consecutive tax years • PKSO - Pre Kinder Tax Credit • a business may receive a tax credit equal to 100% of the first $10,000 contributed and up to 90% of the remaining amount contributed up to a maximum credit of $150,000 annually. • Abrams qualifies for both organizations

  12. EITC – What does a company need to do to participate in the program? Once the application is complete, mail or fax the application to: Brian Mono Manager of Allocations Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia 2100 Arch Street Philadelphia, PA 19103 215.832.0812 bmono@philafederation.org Applications can also be sent to the DCED (Dept. of Community & Economic Development) in Harrisburg, PA. However, since the Jewish Federation has a lobbying staff in Harrisburg that hand-deliver application on the first day of the fiscal year, we recommend to send the application to the Jewish Federation.

  13. EITC – What does a company need to do to participate in the program? Funding is available on a First-come, First Serve basis as of July 1st of the fiscal year. If the company is selected to participate in the program, they will be notified by the DCED (Dept. of Community & Economic Development) in Harrisburg, PA. Contributions must be made to the Foundation for Jewish Day Schools within 60 days of notification by the DCED. The foundations sends an acknowledgement letter to the company that the business owner must send to the DCED to confirm use of the tax credit. The Foundations does send annual reminders in the Spring for companies to sign up again for the EITC program that lists all the upcoming deadlines. The accountants for the companies that participate in the EITC program are responsible for keeping track of years of participation.

  15. EITC - Educational Income Tax Credit • Basically, PA companies contribute to qualifying organizations (such as AHA) and they receive a tax credit for the PA taxes. Your taxes are used for education! • AHA uses these contributions to assist with the operating costs, by shifting the amount of scholarship we provide (over $600,000 in 2009), and the deficit is reduced! • Simple and easy to do!

Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) • The 2009-2010 goal for the PTO is to increase parent participation in school activities during the year. • It is the best interest of the parents to participate in school activities because: • Networking opportunity – meet other parents • See what happens in the school during the day • Help the teachers with their classroom activities • You can help the administration in making decisions that affect the school’s environment • Bring ideas, comments, concerns to the AHA Board • See that as a parent your child gets be best education they can get!
