  2. Lesson Planning 2012-2013

  3. Intent of the Template • The intent of the lesson planning template was to provide teachers with a tool to assist them in their daily planning for the instructional norms. _______________________________________ • The intent was a transfer of planning for the norms to execution of the norms during instruction. ________________________________________

  4. The Reality of the Template • The template has been used as the “lesson plan.”_______________________________ • The template does not outline the instructional sequence. ______________________________ • The “drop-down” options do not require thoughtful planning. ____________________ • After many classroom visitations, data indicates that those who are using the “template” are not meeting the minimum expectations for thoughtful planning. ______________________________

  5. The Reality • DAIT data sweep revealed that only 1% of classrooms in MUHSD are employing higher order thinking skills. (Questions, activities, tasks, etc. at the analyze, evaluate and create levels.) _____________________ • Common core requires application of rigor and relevance. Data gathered clearly indicates these practices are not prevalent across the district. ________________________ • Planning must change to meet the level of rigor required of the common core. __________________

  6. 2012-2013 Lesson Planning • Teachers provide their own lesson plan on a daily basis. • Instructional norms are emphasized/highlighted within the lesson.

  7. Support • Provide on-going professional development on how to lesson plan. • Provide tools for teachers to use when planning. • Staff Development: Summer, Fall, Spring • PLC collaboration time spent on effective lesson planning

  8. Choices • Start planning now for the common core with the Early Adopters (Summer 2012) • Wait to plan for common core • Daily, thorough planning still required • Everyone must implement common core planning with the onset of the 2013-2014 school year Shameless Plug: Summer ILT Workshop: July 24th-26th (The week after summer school) “ With your help MHS will continue to be in front of the transition”

  9. Checking for Understanding w/Mr. Schaefer

  10. Socrative Survey (3 Questions) • Socrative is an instructional tool that can be used for quick surveys, quizzes, and frequent checking for understanding. • The teacher can control the pace of a quiz or allow the students to complete at their on pace. Type the following Url into the browser of your smartphone or mobile device: http://muhsd.k12.ca.us/Page/10447 Room: mhsfac **There is also an app that teacher and students can download to make access to Socrative easier.

  11. Fishbowl Activity • 6 people will be inside of the fishbowl. • Those inside of the fishbowl will share their perspective and insight as they discuss designated topics. • Everyone outside of the fishbowl must be absolutely silent and listen actively (no side conversations). • There are two empty seats: Please feel free to come up and assume a seat if you would like to add to the conversation. • For everyone who would like to continue the conversation, you can blog your thoughts and comments here: URL:
