  2. Theme for Tonight’s Class • The Savvy School Leader Uses Technology To Create A Sense of Collaboration and Professional Learning Community In His or Her School.

  3. Goals for Tonight’s Class • Each of you will have the opportunity tonight to review several terms that are common in conversations regarding planning for technology integration. • Each of you will have the opportunity tonight to become aware how to create a WIKI as part of a savvy school leaders ability to create a professional learning community.

  4. Goals for Tonight’s Class • Each of you will the opportunity tonight to become familiar with the applications of technology for administration and instructional use that are currently available to teachers and students in the our local Central Florida schools.

  5. Let’s Move To Our Professional Learning Communities • Have a discussion within your professional learning community on the article – • “7 Things You Should Know About Wikis”. • Each PLC is asked to identify five concepts and themes in the article that will promote your knowledge and skill as a savvy school • A representative from the PLC will be asked to share your list with the class.

  6. Let’s Review the Terms Common To Conversations on Technology Integration in Schools • It is important that a school leader understands the language of technology. • As teachers, parents, tech directors, and even students enter into a conversation with you on technology, it is a benefit to be able to speak the language.

  7. Let’s Review the Terms Assigned For Tonight’s Class • I will draw a class member’s name from the hat. Default, Blog, Twisted Pair POTS, RAM, Processor 2. The class member will be asked to use the term as if having a conversation with a teacher or fellow administrator regarding technology integration.

  8. Presentation of Local School Technology Model The goal of this assignment is to expose class members to the many uses of technology currently available in central Florida schools to support administrative and effective teaching practices. Three class members are prepared to present a model where technology is being used in their school to support either their school’s administrative procedures or instructional program and teaching practices.

  9. Each presenter will include the following: • A description of the technology model. 2. A description of the hardware and software. 3. The process involved for planning, introducing and implementing the model. 4. The professional development provided. 5. The evaluation process to determine if the model is meeting the need (s) it was designed for.

Presentation Scheduled for Tonight We are looking forward to our first of four local school technology application presentations tonight from: Sarah will be presenting a technology model to promote effective school organization practices. His presentation and paper will be on the Parental Portal.

  11. How Does a Savvy School Leader Deal With An Unexpected Expenditure? • Before we move on let’s see how you, as a savvy school leader, are dealing with the word from your head custodian that the air conditioning system is in need of extensive repairs. • How are you going to handle the estimated cost of the repairs to your school air conditioning system of $ 4,000. • Which one of you savvy school leaders has the answer to this challenge.

Let’s Review The Ways Technology Can Serve To Increase The Capacity Of A Savvy School Leader The three main ways technology can serve to increase the capacity for a savvy school leader is through: 1. School Budget development, Monitoring and Forecasting 2. Creating a Learning Community: -Communication -Collaboration -professional development 3. Data Analysis

A Savvy School Leader Can Use Technology To Create A Professional Learning Community In His or Her School A savvy school leader can Use technology to create a professional learning community by establishing the opportunity for, what I refer to as Open Space Dialogue in his or her school by – Developing a collaborative work environment through the use of the technology offered by Wikis.

  14. What Are Wikis, and How Can The Savvy School Leader Use Wikis in Promoting A Professional Learning Community? • We have learned through our reading for tonight that a Wiki is a collaborative work space. • We have learned through our reading for tonight that a Wiki can be used when revising curriculum materials. • We have learned through our reading for tonight that a Wiki can be used for peer review of instructional strategies.

  15. What Are Wikis, and How Can The Savvy School Leader Use Wikis in Promoting A Professional Learning Community? • We have learned through our reading for tonight that a Wiki provides users both author and editor privileges. • We have learned through our reading for tonight that a Wiki allows users to create and edit any page in a Web site. • We have learned through our reading for tonight that through a Wiki the original work and the editions are instantly visible to other users.

  16. Presentation Scheduled for Tonight We are looking forward to our second of four local school technology application presentations tonight from: Michael will be presenting on PENDAlearning, as an example of a technology model to support effective instructional and classroom practices.

Now Let’s Learn How We As Savvy School Leaders Can Create A Wiki • Go to http://www.wikispaces.com • Follow the steps under “Getting Started” • First create a login identification • To create a space once you login, in the left column “Make a New Space”. • Enter the Space name (what you want to call you wiki) • Select Space visibility • Select Create button • Select the Edit button at the top to begin you page

Presentation Scheduled for Tonight We are looking forward to the third of three local school technology application presentations tonight from: Juliette will be presenting on Vocabulary Spelling City. Come and ELLs example of a technology model to support instructional and classroom practices.

Presentation Scheduled for Tonight We are looking forward to our fourth of four local school technology application presentations tonight from: Kevin will be presenting on Yamaha Music In Education Technology, Assisted Curriculum, as an example of a technology model to support instructional and classroom practices.

  20. Opportunity for Professional Self-Reflection on My Practice Reflection Question: Does my school have a process for promoting Open Space Dialogue and an electronic collaborative work space?

Assignment for Our Next Class • Please research the meaning, of each of the following technology terms for our next class: Domain, Compression, Share Point, Megabytes, DOS, RAM • Then create a few lines using the terms as if in a conversation with a teacher, parent, tech. director, or student at your school regarding a technology issue . • Please Read: 7 Things You Should Know About Blogs
