  2. Question 1a (12 marks) • Asks you to compare 2 sources – ‘how do the views in B differ from those in A’ • AVOID rewriting both sources (nil point!) • Look for points of similarity and difference (maybe put them on a table as a plan) • Show an understanding of why they might be different – who wrote, when why etc. • Don’t spend too long on this question it’s the ‘lead in’ question (i.e. avoid ‘doing a Sally’)

  3. Question 1b (24 marks) • This question requires you to use the sources and your own knowledge to answer a ‘How far’ ‘To what extent’ type question. • Your answer will therefore need to present an argument i.e. ‘very far’ ‘to a limited extent’ backed up with evidence from the source(s) and your own knowledge • Do NOT forget to use the source or you’ll lose lots of marks! • Answer the question in the first line then develop your argument with carefully selected evidence from the source and your own knowledge

  4. Questions 2 and 3 a (12 marks) • So far have ALWAYS required an explanation of something – a CAUSES question. • It is a WHY not HOW question so don’t just tell the story • Try to show how the causes or reasons you give are interlinked and try and evaluate the importance of the causes you give

  5. Questions 2 and 3 b (24 marks) • So far candidates have always been given a quotation and then been asked to explain to what extent they agree or disagree with the quotation. • Your answer therefore needs to show BALANCE – points of agreement and points of disagreement. • The best answers however with show an argument and will come to a clear conclusion which either agrees or disagrees backed up with carefully selected evidence from own knowledge
