The German word Bildungsroman means ‘novel of education’ or ‘novel of formation.’” • Education novel: “a genre popular in the late 18th and early 19th centuries in which a plan of education was set forth for a young person. The education novel was similar to the Bildungsroman but less well developed in terms of characters and plot and narrower in scope.
