  1. Iceland Volcanic Eruption.  By: Namdar

  2. On April 14th 2010 a volcanic eruption took place in Iceland which caused many flights to be cancelled and leaving many people to wait countless hours until the sky clears for their airplane to be able to fly. The mountain that caused all these faults in the northern side of Europe and Iceland is called the Eyjafjallajokull mountain.

  3. Active Volcanic areas and system in iceland

  4. More information/facts on the Eyjafjallajokull: • .Means island-mountains glacier if translated • .It is positioned to the North of Skogar and to the west of Myrdalsjokull • .It’s area is 100 kilometers squared (40 sq mi)    • .Last known major eruption happened in 1821 which was not huge but did cause some  impact-full damage. • .It has erupted 5 different times over the last 1,100 years. • .Approximate coordinates are 63 degrees North and 19 degrees West.

  5. Mountain Eyjafjallajokull

  6. Although this volcano is pretty small and is not know to cause a lot of havoc every time it erupts its last eruption on April caused massive disruption to air traffic across Northern Europe

  7. Where: This volcanic eruption happened in the country of Iceland form mount Eyjafjallajokull located at the south of the island.

  10. When: On April 14 2010, seismic activity started at the end of 2009 and lead all the way through to March of 2010 with small eruptions and a massive one on the 14th of April followed by a second one on the 17th of April

  11. The Second Eruption on 17th of April 2010

  12. Effects on surrounding areas:  • .Over 500 farmers and families have been evacuated  • .Many farmlands have been destroyed  • .Countless roads leading to the nearby mountains have been closed • .Dozens of flights from Iceland to other countries were canceled • .A sudden rise in water levels and water temperature because of melting glaciers • .Ash clouds have blocked sunlight and vision in the skies

  13. Why: Because of thousands of small earthquakes ranging from 1-3 magnitude and very unusual seismic activity

  14. Facts and information on earthquakes and volcanoes:   • . Can occur at three different boundaries •   .Convergent boundaries •   .Divergent boundaries •   .Transform-fault boundaries  • . Earthquakes happen when two plates get stuck and subduct underneath one another and pressure builds up or when lava pushes through an opening between two plates.  • . Volcanoes get caused by earthquakes

  15. Who: Namdar • What: The Eyjafjallajokullmountain located in Iceland

  16. My reason for choosing this article: The reason I decided to choose this article is because I am really interested to know the aftermath of this current situation. So many flights have been cancelled and without a doubt many of them were business and flight trips. How can this deadly eruption effect the way people live and people who’s jobs are being pilot and the countless passengers who are at this moment trapped in the airport. Also lets not forget the amount of jobs the have been lost due to this eruption. Farms and businesses near the impact zone of this eruption have all been lost. Also my second reason is to see the world and the people’s response and reaction to this disaster since it has effected so much.

  17. THANK YOU.
