  2. The history of Unesco The Constitution of unescowas signed in London on 16 November 1945 by 37 countries and came into force with its 20th ratification on 4 November 1946. The purpose of the Organization was defined as: “to contribute to peace and security by promoting collaboration among nations through education, science and culture in order to further universal respect for justice, for the rule of law and for the human rights and fundamental freedoms which are affirmed for the peoples of the world, without distinction of race , language or religion, by the Charter of the United Nations.”

  3. Unesco today Today, after more than 60 years of existence, UNESCO functions as a laboratory of ideas and a standard-setter to forge universal agreements on emerging ethical issues. The Organization also serves as a clearinghouse – for the dissemination and sharing of information and knowledge – while helping Member States to build their human and institutional capacities in diverse fields. For all of UNESCO's major areas of focus (Culture, Education, Natural Science, Social and Human Science, and Communication and Information), it is possible to trace the ideas on which UNESCO was based to the Organization's present activities.

  4. Education UNESCO’s educational objectives are to support the achievement of Education for All (EFA); to provide global and regional leadership in education; to strengthen education systems worldwide from early childhood to the adult years; to respond to contemporary global challenges through education.

  5. How I can help Unescokids • Many in affluent countries only know the street, orphaned and working children of the developing world as tragic statistics, but each of their lives is real. You can help these children. • As the diversity of UNESCO-sponsored local projects within the Programme for the Education of Children in Need shows, much can be done to give a future to a child through education. Education, indeed, is perhaps the only way out for many. By donating funds or by developing a partnership between your business and UNESCO, you can be sure that you are making a real difference to many children’s lives.
