Background • Key fisheries species – spring Chinook salmon, steelhead, bull trout, cutthroat trout • Project area approx. 128,000 acres • 8 sub-watersheds – Pete King, Rye Patch, Canyon, Apgar, Glade, Deadman, Bimerick, and Fish • Past land management • Timber harvest • Jammer road systems • Streamside roads

  4. Limiting Factors • Sediment • High embeddedness levels (38.7%) • Landslides from closed or abandoned roads major contributing factor • Temperature exceeds state standards

  5. Justification for Restoration Location • Stronghold of threatened Snake River Steelhead (Fish Ck.) • Prominent tribal fisheries & cultural value • Salmon Supplementation Studies research project (Pete King Ck.) • Co-Management between CNF & Tribe

  6. Project History • 2000 – Completion of road surveys and Road Obliteration Effectiveness Monitoring sites. • 2001 – Partnership Agreement finalized w/ CNF outlining cost share responsibilities • Implementation pending upon litigation and finalization of supplemental EIS.

  7. 2002 Proposal Objectives • Alleviate sediment input from road caused sources by obliterating 20 miles of road • M&E of road obliteration implementation & effectiveness • M&E of long term watershed conditions (Project # 28045) • Dissemination of project information and peer review
