Question 8 • What effect is the writer trying to create by using the words highlighted in bold in these sentences? • Its deadly tendrils are searching ahead, feeling their way forward (2) (paragraph 3) • Personification – 1 mark • The gas is personified into a creature suggesting that is it consciously looking for humans, making it more dangerous and likely to kill. • Then I am on my hands and knees vomiting violently (2) (final paragraph) • Alliteration – 1 mark • The alliteration highlights the regurgitating motion associated with being sick.
