Lyon municipal Library 14 libraries Visits : → 2.5 millions Loans : → 2.8 millions Registered users : → 104.000 Collections : → 3.8 millions Staff : → 450 Budget : → 20 millions euros → France’s main public library → an offensive banner :“Library more than ever” Population served : Lyon, 450.000 inhabitants ; Urban community of Lyon, 1.5 millions inhabitants

A citizenship factory ◊ a republican institution : → a factor of harmony → a place of social link and of “living together” → a platform for diffusion and sharing of knowledge ◊ an institution dedicated to citizenship : → sharing communal memories and identities → providing opportunities to read, understand, discuss → allowing members of the community to look together to possible futures

  4. A Living lab → placing publics at the heart of the system → public oriented innovative environments and services

  5. 1. Orientation towards publics → accessibility : opening hours, pricing, reception standpoints

  6. A collection development policy → preserve the ambition to form a corpus of knowledge → meet the demand → associate preservation requirements with consequences of circulation → balance material supply and immaterial supply

  7. Widen publics through mediation → define target publics → adapt ourselves to renewed needs

  8. 2. A forum in the city → spaces or tools dedicated to learning, building, expressing oneself… → a forum for meeting, learning and testing…
