  1. Aztec ArtefactsbyThe Class of 2007

  2. What we made We made a selection of Aztec artefacts Including: Serpents Sun Stones Temples God Brooches Stone plaques & Jewellery, feather shields and cloaks

  3. Two Headed Serpents

  4. To make our snakes, we began by rolling long cylinders of clay. We found it quite difficult, as the clay kept drying out.

  5. But we persevered!!

  6. We left our snakes to dry for several days.

  7. We made a great deal of mess, because we used lots of water to smooth our snakes.

  8. We had to cut up millions of pieces of paper, in various shades of blue and green!!!

  9. We painted our snakes black, and then glued on our ‘jewels’.

  10. It was very time consuming.

  11. But we were very proud of our finished Two Headed Serpent.

  12. Sun Stones

  13. We began by rolling clay into large flat discs.

  14. We used a stylus to cut out features.

  15. Then we added the features to the face.

  16. Then the boring bit; we had to wait for it to dry.

  17. Next we painted it with matt paint, before adding a gold glaze to make it look like stone.

  18. We had to be careful, not to damage the features.

  19. A finished sun stone, showing glyphs around the edges.

  20. Aztec Temples

  21. We made lots of 3D nets, to make the different layers. We painted the card to look like stone.

  22. Assembling the layers was tricky.

  23. We added extra layers.

  24. Michael was very proud of his temple.

  25. A finished temple – with steps.

  26. Brooches

  27. We began by trying out our designs on paper.

  28. Next, we copied them onto card and cut them out.

  29. We added lentils, pasta and string for the design elements.

  30. Then we waited patiently for everything to dry.

  31. We painted our brooches with gold spray paint.

  32. Plaques

  33. We began by researching and drawing possible designs.

  34. The plaques were made out of Plaster of Paris, we left them to dry and then painted them.

  35. Mrs Coffey checked that the plaques were dry!

  36. We scratched through the surface, with a stylus to make our design.

  37. Cloak making

  38. We cut designs out of poly-print and used paint, to make a repeating pattern.

  39. It was really difficult to keep our work neat.

  40. We also made jewellery in the style of the Aztecs.

  41. We made an Aztec board game called Patolli

  42. And we made shields using feathers and card.

  43. Finally we made museum style information cards for our artefacts display.

  44. We showed our work in our Leavers’ Assembly

  45. Including our personal research that we had done on the Aztecs.

  46. The End!!
