  2. Mission “World Vision is an international partnership of Christians whose mission is to follow our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in working with the poor and oppressed to promote human transformation, seek justice, and bear witness to the good news of the kingdom of God.”

  3. Started in 1947 in response to the needs of orphaned children. World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organisation working to create lasting change in the lives of children, families and communities living in poverty and injustice. In India, World Vision works in over 150 districts through long term community development programmes and immediate disaster relief assistance. HIV and AIDS in Chennai • The First case of HIV infection in India was detected in the year 1986 in Chennai. • HIV Prevalence > 1% among ANC attendees • Population of Chennai as per the 2001 Census 42.16 lakhs with a population density of 24,231 persons per sq.km. • Over 4000 HIV cases were detected in the Chennai so far as reported in Jun 2005 • HIV screening in all 93 health posts and 64 dispensaries run by the civic body, besides 10 mobile camps. • About 250 doctors and 1,200 paramedical staff of Chennai Corporation are trained in HIV care

  5. Current Trend: • 500 PLHA in Chennai have access to treatment • Out of the 32,000 OVC identified in TN, 10,000 have accessed some sort of services • 1000 OVC were identified for services in Chennai. • Beneficiaries registered at WV India CIHAC Project– 1260 persons (March `99 to Sep`06)

World Vision India - Chennai Integrated HIV/AIDS Care (CIHAC) Project • Started in March `99 in memory of Mother Teresa. • First NGO initiative in Chennai to directly address HIV/AIDS Care. • Focus on poor and marginalised women and children living with HIV/AIDS and those vulnerable for HIV infection.

Project Outputs: • HIV and AIDS Counseling • Symptomatic Management of HIV & HAART • Nutrition Supplementation • Short Stay & Rehabilitation • Support Group Meetings for PLHA • LSE for Children of Sex Workers • IGA/SHG/MED for vulnerable women (sex workers) • ‘Channels of Hope’ Workshops for Church Leaders • Academe
