  2. Present Situation • KESC Should have their own Power Generation min (600 MW) • All Major industrial Areas Should have Mutual funds for Power Generation • SITE Industrial Area (120 MW) • Korangi Industrial Area (100 MW) • F B Area /North karachi (45 MW) • West Warf (40 MW) • Landhi (100 MW) • Commercial Day time 200 MW night time 325 MW Between (6:30 to 10:30) • Tariq Rd (20 MW) • Sadar (38 MW) • Zamzama / Clifton (10 MW) • Hadry (6 MW) • North Karachi (6 MW) • Yousuf Plaza (4 MW) • Others (20 MW) • Total (104 MW)

  3. Demand and Supply today

  4. MARCH 2008 Vs 2007 March Demand, 08 Demand, 07 Morning Peak 1800 MW 1700 MW Evening Peak 2150 MW 1950 MW May to Oct 2008 Min Load shedding 450 to 550 MW June Demand, 08 Demand, 07 Morning Peak 2550 MW 2350 MW Evening Peak 2750 MW 2500 MW

  5. Its Time to join hands as a Nation

  6. Present Requirement Commercial Saving • Commercial Area (Big Areas) • Day time 200 MW • Night time 325 MW Between (6:30 to 10:30) after (10:30 load decreases by 100MW) • Tariq Rd (20 MW) • Sadar (38 MW) • Zamzama / Clifton (10 MW) • Hadry (6 MW) • North Karachi (6 MW) • Yousuf Plaza (4 MW) • Forum (3 MW) • Pak Towers (4 MW) • Others (20 MW) • Total (111 MW)

  7. Mutual Funding

  8. Mutual Funding 500 Million Dollars SITE Area (120MW) + (15MW residential) = 135 MW 3 Units each 48 MW = 144 MW Korangi Industrial Area (100 MW) + (5 MW residential) = 105 MW 2 Units each 48 MW = 96 MW F B Area /North karachi (38MW) + (10MW residential) = 38 MW 1 Units each 48 MW = 48 MW West Warf (35 MW) + (4MW) = 39 MW 1 Units each 48 MW = 48 MW Landhi (110 MW) + (20) = 130 MW 3 Units each 48 MW = 144 MW Total = 480 MW

  9. Advantages & Disadvantages

  10. Advantages & Disadvantages • Disadvantages • Very High Investment • Advantages • One time investments • High Reliability • Low cost of Production • No Losses • Able to Compete in Int. • Very good source of income for the investors • Very Short Roi • Less Dependency • Lower Cost of Generation • Social Work • Additional power may be supplied to residences • No Load Shedding • Lass Network Faults • Reduce KESC losses by bulk supply • KESC to be used as Standby

  11. How to resolve the issue On fast track basis

  12. All the mentioned proposals will take at least 2 to 3 years How to resolve the issue on fast track basis WAPDA should increase supply up-to min 850 MW Big question WHY? 1. Karachi is the highest revenue generator of the country 2. WAPDA major investments are done by the revenue generated by Karachi. 3. Total WAPDA’s Generation is 19000 out of which Khi gets only 3 % of its total generation must be increased to min 5% 4. Karachi being the heart of the country and the whole economy of the country based on this metropolis. 5. Two hours of shedding in the country & min 8 to 10 hrs in Khi increase that time to two and a half hour and supply more to Karachi. This will reduce the load shedding to 3 Hrs max in Karachi Investors Fear who will pay By this reputation of both WAPDA and KESC they don’t pay on time who will invest in this power generation so as to resolve this issue there should be direct supply and collection of money without involving KESC by the private investor

  13. How we can join hands to resolve the energy crisis

  14. Things to do as a nation Massive energy saving campaign Towns should take the responsibility of electricity theft Day light saving Commercial area timings Subsidize the rate of energy savers Restrict sale of air conditioners Industrial Load shedding Educate schools, collages and universities Recreational areas like parks and other may be closed after 8
